| How does everybody think it went this week with the ticket checking, we wont go into the Steward situation here as that I think is a different issue and one I'm not happy with either.
I watched folks coming in and with the Stewards being mostly at the top of the aisles where they should have been last week things seemed to be better, even when you had the 5 minutes before kick off mad rush to get in from the bars.
Also for anyone that mentioned it I will be pleading with Ryan as I did on the night to tone down the volume on those speakers, that was over the top to say the least.
Just drop me a PM with anything specific.
Cheers and take care all
Gill.

| I made a point of studiously ignoring the jobsworth at the top of the steps, walked straight past with pint and hotdog in hands. No problem, but then again I could have easily not had a ticket at all, and there's the problem for the club. I think the new system is barking.
A couple of minutes before the end, I made my way to the 'car park end' of the back of the stand to watch the last minute of action from there, and another jobsworth tried to move me on, presumably because I am a fire hazard or something equally stupid. I totally ignored that one too, working on the basis that in the space of a minute or so, there was nothing they could or would do, so "pretend they're imaginary" is my advice.
Like the human bollards posted at the end of Stadium Road "to stop you turning right". Well, yes, they have a whole lot of authority to do that, don't they!
On another note, I've made a point (with the benefit of HD) of looking at the carryings on in Premier League grounds and there are many areas in the "stands" where fans do, indeed, stand all the time, and nobody tries to stop them. In effect, all football stewards are required to do, it seems to me, is sit on the grass looking at the crowd for 90 minutes, except if a goal is scored, when they are required to stand up and stretch their arms out, scarecrow-wise, between the celebrating players and the nearest fans. Why are we seeing an apparent insidious advance of active "stewarding", didn't we have more than enough of these sort of ignorant jobsworth tosspots at VP?

It occurs to me that, should a pic of you happen to fall into the hands of said "Ignorant jobsworth tosspots", and should they wish to debate with you the extent to which they agree with your definition on your next visit, you might find events develop not necessarily to your advantage...?
I'm normally the last person to defend ignorant jobsworth tosspots - had years of dealing with their types at work, collectively the Business and Job Destruction Agency it seemed to me, and every year their numbers seem to grow. But these guys at Odsal are likely getting paid the minimum wage and and likely only doing what their boss in a brighter jacket with a clipboard is telling them to do. Methinks maybe you are blaming the infantry for the lack of common sense of some higher up the food chain?
And anyway, you are Richard Littlejohn and I claim my £5...

A pretty stupid view to take if you ask me.
What if everyone had your attitude, chaos would soon decend. And you would probably be the first to complain about the lack of control of the situation.

Chaos never existed in the previous several decades, is the point. There was and is no need for any of this, is the point. Once I got in to the stand area I was not constantly being approached by guards, who are naturally only obeying orders, demanding "Your PAPERS", is the point.
So [size=150WHAT chaos[/size, and why in the last few decades did this feared chaos never visit itself upon our collective heads?
Eh?

Not a bit of it, I'm about as affable a fellow as they ever meet, if they don't do anything ludicrous, but where it is merited I will, and have, explain my opinion in such simple language.

I'm not [iblaiming[/i them, they are my point of contact. It isn't personal, I am criticising the post, not the post holder. If they disagree with my views they can always summon a higher jobsworth until we find one whose fault it is. That only ever happened once to date, when someone (whom i didn't know) was being removed from the stand on a trumped up charge of misbehaviour. It ended with the jobsworth being quietly led away by his boss instead. (And it wasn't just me, so I'm not taking all the credit)
PS I detest that rabble rousing twa =white[size=9a[/sizet Littlejohn witha passion reserved for very few so even though I know you were kidding . . .

| To get back to the original question I found it easier. This was probably because my ticket was never checked ( my hands were full when I entered the stand) and I was just waved through with a smile.
It was certainly easier, just the same as the old way in fact, though I`m not so sure about the security. Since the world and his wife can just wander down the hill into the stand it just seems like open house to be honest and I`m sorry but I still haven`t worked out what the problem with the old system was.

| The only possible explanation I can think of for the (now-aborted) change was to facilitate free movement of people round all of the ground. Unfortunately the layout of the facilities around and behind the main stand does not readily lend itself to that.
Either that or it was a cunning plan to provide a focus of contention away from what was happening on the park...

But the people who sit in the stand have paid a lot more money to do so than the rest of the ground, who already have far more and better variety of catering outlets. Sure you can get a pass out and traipse around teh ground to them, but what is the need for people who do NOT have a stand ticket to come behind the stand, when they can't get anything they couldn't get near where they were stood, and where all that will happen, if they do come round, is a lengthening of queues for such minimal facilities as do exist at the back of the stand.
Anyway - what's this "now aborted" comment? Come on, spill ye beans.

Although I do appreciate that you've shut up, nevertheless I have been directed to the following quote:
Quote Bulls General Manager Ryan Duckett said today.
...after several meetings with our senior stewards and listening to the concerns of our supporters, we feel it was affecting our Customer Service and therefore we will change the system commencing at the game against Hull FC on Sunday."'"
Maybe my "attitude" did the trick, then!

Shut Up....hmm, more stopped having a cross purpose disagreement.
The point I was trying to make was that if 5,000 of us all stood to watch the last 10mins at the back of the stand, as you did and ignored requests to sit back down it wouldn't be the greatest. Would you agree?
And I'm not saying the approach of the stewards is the best by any means, but they are just trying to do a job, as instructed.
Anyway, let's not start an 11 page argument off on it shall we?

| Okay first of all the system has been changed as we the fans were not happy with it, it was thought not needed and it was not working, we all got what we said we wanted so no problem surely.
Second, standing is not allowed at the back of the Main Family Stand due to that being a designated disabled viewing area for those not able to sit in the stand by any other means than in a Wheelchair. It must be kept clear as I and the rest of the people who use that area do not want to reverse into anyone who is stood behind me when they shouldn't be, unless you have a penchant fopr broken toes.
I really hope this explains it.

The nearest toilets to where we stand are behind the stand, its bl00dy petty that they won't let us in to use them.

Bit OTT Gill. You know that the Bulls nist be one of the best SL clubs for wheelchair access and viewing. Surprised that you think that wheelchair users do not have the whit or intelligence to avoid spectators toes in their manipulations. Are they to become a HSE issue?

| I love it when people solemnly tell me what "might become" an issue - when it never remotely has.
I'm making my way out, but choosing to do so along the back of the stand. I'm allowed to go that way; if I wasn't, then it would be blocked off. If play in the last minute or two looks as if we might score, I might pause to watch for a tackle or three. But then all the people around me are always doing the same thing. It's human nature. I don't "stand at the back for 10 minutes" and agree that that is not permitted.
Yes, if 5000 people were crammed into that bit there would be a problem. In that weird thing called "real life", which I seem to be more capable of recognising than some, this does not happen, never has happened, and is never remotely likely to happen.

I don't believe you really think that. The stand at Odsal apart, wherever you go, where else are people forbidden from standing in your vicinity lest you reverse over their toes? ! Your point that people shouldn't be allowed to block those areas or encroach on the areas where wheelchair users are sat is pefectly sound, but isn't helped by inventing potential H&S problems, nit-picking-risk-assessor style.
I have never got in the way of nor encroached on the space of the wheelchair users, and if I stand in what is a clear space, which nobody is either using or wanting to use, there is no problem, unless somebody chooses to pretend there are some fanciful circumstances that might make it a problem. It's like Wigan Bull's dark "threats of chaos". Sure, no chaos has ever ensued, or remotely threatened to ensue, but [iyou never know . . .[/i
It was like banning smoking in concrete stands in pre-smoking ban days, on the grounds of "fire risk". There was, of course - in the absence of a fag end big and hot enough to set concrete ablaze - no fire risk at all, but nevertheless you don't want to take chances, do you, [iyou never know . . .[/i
Anyway, no, I don't want to have a mini-novelette argument, and thankfully there is no need as common sense which co-incides with my views has thankfully prevailed, so let's end it at that, Bravo Bulls.

We have the wit and the intelligence but may not have the ability.
I have problems seeing people that are right behind me, the toe situation has happened to someone who stood behind another disabled spectator. Although the person for apologised for getting his toes and the person and he got laughed it off it still happened. Nobody should have been there but when people stand at the back this is was happens and its not nice when you are relaxing enjoying a game.
There is a concourse for having a natter on but the route along the back of the stand has to be kept clear, they are the rules once the game starts. It has to be a route to the seating and concessions and toilets as well as the viewing area for wheelchair users. That area has been kept clear for years so on that point I'll defend the Stewards.
As for the HSE issue I'll laugh and assume you were not serious, please let me be right.

Nope no mini-novellette, no matter what your view is you can stand for the last 10 minutes at the back of the Stand. If you would do it others would and its not going to happen.
As for the subject of the thread and the abolishing of the new ticketing system surely all is now as it should be and everyone is happy.
