| Quote ="Bubbashrimp"There was nothing ironic in your post. Bradford should have been punished severely, the fact they weren't just shows the game is run by idiots.'"
The former Bradford Bulls Holdings Ltd WAS punished severely. It is now hurtling towards oblivion.
The new, totally unconnected company that the RFL has awarded the vacant franchise to started with a clean sheet and so therefore the issue of punishment should not be relevant. Because had there been a better candidate for the vacant freanchise, doubtless the RFL would have awarded it to that company and they would have taken up the franchise free of any impediment.
Yet for some reason the new company has been severely punished for the sins of the totaly unconnected old company - not even the sins of the father being visited upon the sons, moire like being visited on the fourth cousin twice removed. SO yes you are quite correct - the game is indeed run by idiots.

| But they are the biggest club in the league in the heartland of the game, and in a truly rugby city!!!!!
how can this happen when they are getting 50,000 people every week to watch them?
seriously. the league need to do something about this. The game as a whole is unsustainable unless somebody grows some balls and really looks at clubs and spending.
perhaps investing long term in shiny new stadia, and therefore long term financial liabilities wasnt the best way forward???? The league and the way licenses are issued could be to blame as clubs have overstretched them selves to get these new grounds, thinking it would be a license to print money????
time for a serious debate. not just points scoring about who should have been booted out or not.

They did.
They made an example of Bradford, [ipour encourager les autres[/i.
Built on foundations of sand. As one day the smug fans of certain currently-bankrolled clubs will find out when its their turn to go domino.

| The problem is, making an example of us doesnt solve the unpublicised strife that some clubs are clearly already in. If we look back, we can trace our money issues to 2004, or even earlier. and everything since then has been like trying to plug holes in a dam!
the punative nature of our sanctions (although deemed not punative enough by some) cant serve as an example to the clubs in strife now because that spiral is already in existence!
The RFL will be secretly hoping that any clubs going under will happen in the off season. that way they wont have to prop the club up to fulfill its fixtures like they did with us! I am under no illusion that had we entered administration in January (like perhaps we should have done), we would have been cut adrift very quickly!
I offer a genuine and sincere hope that all of this is untrue, and that we were the only SL club in bother financially. These are dark days for our sport. the problem is that the money from sky that was going to save our sport in 1995, has simply been redirected into the pockets of players and their agents. are we going to have to face facts soon that as a sport we cannot sustain full time professionalism and compete in wage terms with the other code, and with the NRL? or is booting the mismanaged or misguided clubs out of the league with the remaining clubs getting a bigger slice of the cash, the way forward?

In my opinion we can trace the 'money troubles' back to the year 2000 and the Odsal settlement. It was the settlement which provided the means to the overspending during the very early part of this century, which in turn, along with other mistakes and the odd misfortune, led pretty directly, to the demise of Bradford Bulls Holdings Ltd.
Incidentally, I read in this mornings press that Sky are smarting a bit from the amount they are having to pay for Premier division soccer and seem pretty openly saying that cuts will have to be made 'elsewhere'. I wonder where that might be then?

Yes but if they don't make an example of clubs that face oblivion then clubs will face oblivion as a choice. Or something.

I'm a bit out of touch. How much does the game get per year from Sky?
Cos the Sky ProCycling team, which is the pet project of a certain recently departed younger Murdoch, has a budget of about 30 million a year. That's for a sport they don't show, unless it's a "how we won Le Tour retrospective", and which until this year had practically zero visibility in this country. They pretty much advertise their brand in places where their brand does not exist.

There's a village called Stones near Gateshead. Unfortunately Glasshouses is in North Yorkshire and quite far away from Hull.

Another one urging the RFL to do something. Like what?
The RFL didn't make an example of you, they bent over backwards to keep you at the top table, much to the disgust of the Royston Vasey brigade.
Virtually all major sports are in the same position as RL, with a few sustainable clubs & the majority not. Presumably that is all the RFL's fault & they are all run by the RFL who will be secretly rubbing their hands in glee at the prospect of clubs going bust?
We already struggle to hold on to our brightest talent. Reducing what they get paid, cutting big teams in major conurbations, cutting media coverage will all exacerbate that problem. The RFL have to allow for all that, for clubs who cannot control their budgets in the search for short term success, while trying to expand the game. What are suggestions to make our game grow sustainably?

| You do realise that the majority of this is due to shelling out for new training facilities, youth academy premises and investments in other off the field ventures dont you?
Hardly bank rolling new players. We will spend up to the cap, and apart from Lynch, we havent paid a fee for any player.

Great player but I'm less convinced about the Captaincy. I think we are better off now in that department than we were and for that to happen he had to move. The mental resiliance of the team this season was so much better than recent years. Some of it no doubt down to Potter but also down to those doing the talking on the pitch. Certainly miss him in the forwards next year unless we sort something out soon.

| To be honest i think the figures show how much SL clubs need a money man. Sport clubs don't make money, end of.
Hull are one of the best supported teams wand probably get good sponsorship money as well. The fact they have lost half a million shows how it is near impossible to run a sports club as a money making business if you want to be successful on the field.
RL needs more people like Pearson to help the sport compete against it's rivals.

Hull did win one more game than Bradford, so that conclusively proves Lynch is worth several trillion pounds, but why are you talking to this poster as if he was being serious?

Well, I don't, I hate 'em all, and am actively arranging their extermination right now.
=#FF0000[size=85* Note to electronic communications police, and to fans of other clubs of an unduly nervous and worrisome disposition - the above comment is what is known as a "joke". I do not in reality hate the fans of any other club, indeed on the whole I quite like them, even Rhinos; and am not in fact arranging for any mass exterminations, or indeed any exterminations at all, nor do I advocate any such action. Nor indeed would I have any facility so to arrange, since Dr. Who has the Daleks well under control and I do not possess any weapons of mass destruction.[/size

I'm not convinced Pearson is in this for benevolent Davy/Moran/Hughes reasons so Hull fans need to be careful they don't end up disappointed. He's talked a good game so far but can he really be expecting to make a return from the sport? The previous Hull administration, unwilling or unable to fund the club themselves, did a good job in balancing the books but have got nothing but abuse. So Pearson's aim to make a profit is going to be a tricky ask.
I wonder what non Rugby League revenue Hull FC generate and how profitable it is operating out of a stadium they don't own.
