| You don't see the idea of saying English is a racial group as being controversial? English is a nationality not a racial group.

| if you feel like you're English, you're English. It's nothing to do with where you were born and where your parents were born. Chase has engulfed himself in "English" culture, he's lived here for 3 years, will be living here for a few more too. He obviously feels like he's an Englishman so he's chosen to play for England.

You are correct in my confusion but I am not sure you are correct in English being a race, although I think your other opinions are ludicrous. You think Krasniqi would have no pride in playing for England or, presumably, Quins?

Of course it's to do with who your parents are!
I like NZ Warriors and i enjoy watching the Kiwis, but i am from Yorkshire in England as are my ancestors therefore i am English. I have nothing against Rangi Chase, he is a fine RL player who i would love to have playing for the Bulls but he is not English.

He may have pride in playing for Quins but i feel that playing for England would be sailing under a flag of convenience.

Not really.
A white New Zealander can play for the Kiwis but not the Maoris whereas a Maori can play for both. I do not see a problem with that.
I would liken this to saying a Scot can play for GB and Scotland, but not England (unless he is Danny Brough of course, which just shows how silly the whole thing has become).

Chase isn't far off that? He's eligible to represent the country in the sport he plays, he must be able to apply for a passport?

Wherever i live i would always be English because that is what i, my parents, grandparents etc are and were. That fact can never be changed, you are what you are regardless of pieces of paper and residency.
Rangi may well gain British citizenship at some point but that does not change the fact that he is not English.
Do you not understand the difference between English by birth and British citizenship?

He may, you seemingly don't, since you are talking about being English by ancestry ("what i, my parents, grandparents etc are and were"icon_wink.gif, and not birth.

| Quote ="Maccbull_BigBullyBooaza"In order to get a better crop of young "Englishmen" we need more kids taking up the sport to increase the pool of talent. In order to do that we need more media exposure in areas where the game doesn't have a traditional fan base. In order to do that we really need England to do something against Australia and New Zealand and the only way we're going to do that is by picking the best players that are eligible. It's a smart move by Macca. I also like his efforts to try and get Dally Cherry Evans to play for England but i think he'll be swayed by the interest being shown by Queensland so it won't go anywhere.
Do you really think the kids that will have taken up cricket after the last ashes series give a toss that half the team are technically south africans?'" Nail.....

Oh no, someone has used the'R' word!!??
lets change the question slightly....
Should someone be able to represent a country after only living there for 3 years. Taking into consideration, the player has no other ties to said country (parents etc.)

| Yes, let's not go down the racist route. Somebody with a contrary view to somebody else doesn't make them a racist (albeit I don't agree with his assessment of being English). Far too much of the "r" crap is wheeled out in modern society and it's infuriating at best.

WTF does that mean? If anything? The way I read your post, it is exceptionally offensive. If you do not clarify what you mean by that, I will report it.

| Its all to do with heritage and stuff
For example Jarrod Sammut is an Autrailian born player who plays for Malta due to his Maltese heritage, NOT because he just decided to play for them and also has most likely never resided there !!

| Quote ="tigertot"It is irrelevant. The poster said the criteria for being picked for England is having English parents. '"
Indeed, but that is pure deception on his part. Say one of your fifth-great-grandfathers came to England some centuries ago. Say the progeny of all 64 of them over the ensuing generations were all born in England. But on hi de hi's definition you could never be English as your DNA is forever contaminated by that forriner. He wasn't English, so his kid (your fourth-great-grandad) wasn't English. And as [ihe[/iwasn't English, his progeny cannot be English. And so on, to you And your great great great great great grandchildren. Forriners, the lot on 'em. The only bit we await is how far back you need to be able to trace your entire bloodline and confirm every single ancestor as "English" for it to "count".
