You're kidding, right? He was never outstanding. He was average and made some ridiculous decisions.

| Platts like RL's David James/Titus Bramble; all the technical ability just doesn't have a anything upstairs! no rugby brain what so ever, struggles to concentrate. Its a real shame because he has some real talent but will never reach the the heights befitting.

A full back has to be able to defend as well as attack. At Cas he never looked safe under the high ball, and players just ran round him in defence. I was watching your highlights from yesterdays game and his positional defence when people broke through was cringeworthy.
But thats just my opinion.

Maybe we're playing him in the wrong position then. Breaking the line is a great asset but not the most important one for a FB.

You might be right but its still a good stat to have as a player no matter what position you play
As you say fullback might not be for him - I'm sure there are plenty who would agree

It's why Leeds play Webb.

Totally different scenario. Brent Webb is a proven World Class Full back. He's safe under the high ball, can read a game, is a solid defender. Add that to his attacking and supporting game and you have a very different player than to Michael Platt. Platt does break the line and when he does, he is good at it. You can't play him at FB on this alone though. The mans your last line of defence and the extra man that slots in when attacking....Or at least he should be.

He is average in defence at best, reasonable under the high ball. 25 missed tackles, 30 errors last season. Webb is definitely not Keith Mumby. Whether defence is the most important asset of a modern FB is open to debate.

| I'd say Webb's defence isn't much of an issue because the 12 blokes in front of him can defend pretty well. Put him behind 12 blokes who can't defend and you'd find fans talking about it more often.
As Tigs says he's no Keith Mumby. How we could do with a man of his reliability now!

Poor man's Ian Wilkinson. What about Alex Green - he faired really well at Burnden Park as I recall.

It should be said though that plenty of our knowledgeable 'fans' had a go at the immortal, legendary Keef during his career for having "no pace" and not being good enough in attack, allegedly poor under the high bomb, etc.

but to be fair you dont coach errors and individual mistakes - the coach didnt tell Platt to do what he did , the coach doesnt miss tackles etc.
its been clear to me when watching you this year that the players are not doing their jobs well enough - surely some or most of the blame should lie with them rather than the bloke who probably dispairs at the players as much as you lot do !

It is not the first time he has done this and ANY coach should have told him after the first time that when caught in that situation you die with the ball.

| That second half was terrible, and why top 'supposedly' players cannot tackle as we all saw, is unbelievable. Daft as it sounds there were some positives, and Nero looks a different player this year.
Unless we can build some defence I don't think we shall reach the last eight, and yet another wasted season. It was a terrible performance, and heads should roll. Somehow I am sure we will see little changes.

| Making the top 8 really doesn't bother me that much right now. Obviously I want to see the Bulls win as many as possible but we're a long way off being challengers. If we continue as we are, then we quite rightly deserve to finish in the bottom few.

Very few Bradford fans. A common misconception amongst other supporters but I'd say Mumby was just about the most highly regarded Northern player by our fans that I can remember.

| I won £130 on Platt scoring the first try in Cardiff MM (07).
I remember at the time thinking he was great, and not just because of the money either, he did seem like a great buy.

He was and is a great buy. The trouble is, due to a handful of well-publicised decisions which have led to tries, not all of which were "fault" on his part, he will now forever be a target for the boo-boys, even if he scores ten tries a game and never concedes one for the rest of his career with us.

I think one thing about Platt is he got off to a fantastic start at Bradford and then never hit the same run of form again. Inconsistent since and at full back a lot of your mistakes lead to tries and end up being highlighted. Now he's the fall guy highlighting his good plays doesn't happen (e.g. his well timed run and pass for Menzies try on Sunday hasn't been well noted).
