think there will be a fair few disappointed people on here if thats true. Personally think brian mac is our best option out of the uk names being bandied around. lowes as assistant is maybe as much for PR purposes as actual coaching reasons I'd suggest. Seems likely that hudds have settled for baloo for there next head coach and rumour about sts and justin morgan wont go away so maybe theres not that much interest in uk positions from aussies given weaker pound.
one thing that immediately springs to mind is that brian mac has a decent record of working on a tight budget and bringing youth through so may be a good fit for us. Also, given our lack of quota spots next year if we retain menzies, He's got a good knowledge of uk players which will be needed for any recruitment.

| I know the Bulls never would, but once we make an appointment it would be interesting to see who else applied!
We could certainly have done without two other English SL clubs also searching for a new coach as well!

| A combination of the collapse of Sterling against the Aussie and the Kiwi, albeit slightly redressed in the last couple of weeks, and a seriously-worsening UK personal tax environment and closing of avoidance devices, makes the UK a far less attractive proposition for Aussies and Kiwis to come and work here than it did only 18 months ago.

| Warrington, as always, exists in a parallel universe where exchange rates, tax rates, pay rates are of no consequence since the answer is always "yes - we can". Silly boy, everyone knows that.

That's open to debate. The trophy haul is less than Bradford due to you not winning as many Cups or WCC in that era and Saints have won more than both. BTW until you can reach and win both finals in the same season and go on to hold all four trophies at once it's arguable that Leeds haven't equalled either.
I'll agree with that
What's Obama got to do with it? Or is it Pol Pott or General Pinochet or someone like that?'"
Nobody has won 3 in a row but Leeds! that's the new bench mark! that's the standard that has to be beat! Only Leeds have had that success.
I think the bulls should go with jimmy lowes!

Yeah you see for me it's still not winning both finals in the same season.
I suppose it's a bit like comparing David Ike to Jesus. Yes winning three in a row is a massive achievement and David Ike is very popular in America and sells a lot of books. But he'll never quite match Jesus in the whole son of God thing.

I suppose it Depends if you believe Jesus was the son of god! Or if there is a god!(besides jp)
love him or hate him ike is alive

If he does, the prop crisis can be solved instantly by a call to the Jeffosaurus. Wonder what Keith if up to, while Kearney's out...

| Slightly off thread but all this "Leeds are great as we won 3 GF back to back to back" although a great achievement I still don't see them as an all conquering side.
From my point of view I feel that SL in general has diluted in quality ever since the increase to 14 sides and the lowering of the quota. I know that the reason behind these ideas was to increase the UK player talent pool, but all it's ended up doing is lowering the standards of the competition as a whole. Mediocrity is now applauded (8th place gets into the play-offs) and if you all take a step back and look at some of the teams in the league, its hard to understand how some of these clubs are spending to the full cap (or as close to it as they can). Granted clubs like ourselves have a smaller budget - but even if we were to spend to the full cap - this might only mean we had one, possibly two extra players of a very good level. Even if we had this, I don't think we (or other sides at a similar level) would be able to compare favourably on paper with the squads at Leeds, Warrington and a couple of other clubs.
Leeds should be commended for being able to keep hold of the majority of their youngsters (thanks to all being bestest mates and willing to play for peanuts thus lowering the standard of life each of them will have once they have retired) and building a succesful side. But being probably the richest club with the best resources, this is not a surprise that they have the majority of the best young talent attracted to them.
It's very difficult to compare teams of different eras - even those within the last 10 years. From a personal point of view, some of the championship (GF) winning sides from the late part of the 90's and early part of 00's I believe would have made mincemeat out of some of the sides recently winning trophies in the last couple of seasons. This is just purely my belief and very open to debate.

sorry guys didn't mean to derail the thread but I think LMS has to do what ellis did! Move to fulfil his potential! I know if I was from London and had to move north it wouldn't to be to Wig-in or sint-el-ins if Leeds was on the table too.

thing is from LMS's standpoint at the time he's negotiating a contract he has option of going to a very settled team who are reigning champions but are maybe being overhauled by other teams and trying to force his way past established incumbents. Or go to a team with a fair few positions in forwards up for grabs, who are currently league leaders by a decent margin and favourites to be new champions ( unless your from leeds).
Interesting choice for the lad.

In the late 90s and early 00s the competition was much less intense - even Leeds sides under Powell and Lance could be confident in winning a large number of games simply because there wasn't as much of level playing field back then. Even the Bulls side of 2003 which is widely regarded as SL's best ever team would win fewer games in the current competition IMO - but that's just my opinion! The fact that Leeds have managed to win 3 in a row in a more competitive era makes the achievement all the more special IMO.
I think the current Leeds side may well be the last time a single team dominates the competition over such a period (unless the salary cap rules are changed drastically), so I'm trying to make the most of it now, especially having seen what happened at Odsal. It may seem unthinkable now but if/when Caddick and El Presidente leave Headingley Leeds could find themselves in a similar position.

It's very difficult to compare isn't it. Back in the early years of SL the rules on salary cap spend were different - ie, upto 50% of revenue to a max amount of £X if I remember rightly, and now, all teams can spend upto the maximum agreed.
At that time some (not many probably) players would have played for less to ensure they played for the "best" teams, so clubs like Bradford, Wigan, Saints and Leeds hogged the best players. Players like Lee Gilmour couldn't get a game for Bradford but when the salary cap changed, these type of players moved on (Lee probably isn't the best example as he went to Saints but you get the idea).
By the way, I think that the comment about Dean Lance winning most games is probably OTT
