| Smith's reputation comes from almost but not quite doing it over a long period of time, but his real legacy is in leaving a trail of assistants who did go on to do it in one capacity or another. The "Brian Smith School" is over, finished, done. No ta.

| Scott Naylor is another name being mentioned. He looks to be doing a great job at Oldham.
You have to wonder how much free reign a new coach will have with Ferres pulling the strings in the background, especially with recruitment? How much involvement does Ferres have exactly. Somebody has made some major recruitment mistakes over the past couple of years and it's difficult to know exactly where the buck stops. A new coach will only cover over so many cracks if its Ferres calling the shots.

| Recruitment wise, Ferres has managed to put together a pretty decent squad. The failure of a 7 is evident, but there were attempt to get Jacks on board this year, I think it was Lowes that said no to that plan.
Even if you take into consideration the players that we signed and then shipped out on loan, the squad we assembled looks pretty impressive, for this division. Only player I have an issue with is Mathers....
If only we had a coach that could get them playing near to their full potential?

| I'm pretty sure that Lowes wouldn’t have been told what to do. Harrison said after he left that he wasn't really allowed much of an input.
The Bulls do have a decent squad and so they should considering the money they've spent. The squad could have been so much better has they not wasted cap money on players that don't get anywhere near the starting team when we don't have a scrum half.
Big decision for Mr Green coming up. I have no idea who I'd go for? I still see Morrison and Naylor as relatively inexperienced but id be surprised if it isnt one if them. No to Harris from me.
I wonder if Pita Godinet is still interested in joining now Jimmy's gone? There doesn't seem to be much else doing.

| I don't see a rush to make a quick appointment, I'm quite content with Diskin for the time being. It's obvious he got a good reaction from the squad at Dewsbury and I see no reason against him seeing us through the next few weeks.
Call me completely naive if you like, but is there any possibility that one or both of Paul Anderson or Brian McDermott might become available over the next few months?
Yeah, I know - probably wishful thinking. But if Ken Davy decided to terminate Anderson at the Giants should be Top 8 become out of reach, then he'd be available. And what job would be available that would be a better job?

| I'm at a bit of a loss as to why everyone is clamouring for Morro. Isn't he just another well liked ex-player just like we had with Jimmy. What we need is someone with proven coaching experience at a high level. Noble or Potter if you want people with Bulls connections.

Noble is director of rugby or something for new Canada team according to T and A.

| We dont have bags on money so someone who is used to having the best players and cash to spend might be abit lost with the mixed bag of players we have, id like Morrison or Marshal, both seem to be good motivators and both have done very well on tight playing budgets and know how to get the team playing very well.

| Two interesting bits from the T&A today were that Jimmy will reveal these personal reasons in the coming days (maybe something in the matchday paper?) and that he will be at Odsal on Sunday handing over the reigns to Diskin. Could be odd.
As an aside, it's come up a couple of times in this thread and others - I can't be the only one disappointed with the potential prospect of Leon coming back. He was never a player to particularly dig us out of a hole when we were on top and he often goes missing when things go against him (even more so in recent years at Catalans and Hull). I've no doubt he'd rip up some Championship sides if we were on a roll, but I've serious doubts he can dig and in and do a shift if we're on the back foot to SL sides in the 8s.

| Morrison is quoted in T&A as saying he has studied Bulls videos closely prior to playing them and the strengths and weaknesses are there to be seen but can soon be fixed. Well come on then.

| If I were Morro...............I'd think very carefully before coming here, after all, the expectations are somewhat higher and the ultimate target is [imo basically unachievable as things stand. The perfect poisoned chalice, in fact.

We've currently no half back and there aren't any available. How can we be disappointed if we get someone with the experience of Leon. We need an older head in the middle of the park. Yes i would prefer someone like Burns, but lets be honest, we're nearly in May and this mysterious superstar HB still hasn't arrived. They aren't any available and even if they were, we're behind everyone else in trying to get them to come here.
Getting someone with Leon's experience, who still has the ability to rip LOWER SL teams to pieces. Also he is a Bradford lad and would be giving his all to get us back up.
If not Leon, which HB would you realistically want us to get? Burns is my number 1 but i can't see that happening. He'll be on a big contract and other SL teams would be after him.
The other 2 mentioned, Declan Patton is out injured i think and while he might have quality, SL still very young and inexperienced. With Sandow out for a couple of Months, would Warrington let him come with NO RECALL? Thomas Bosc is now playing regularly for Catalans.

Agreed. It is quite a peculiar comment IMO. OK so his best days are behind him but he would be playing at a lower level than he has been.
As for "Redbull"? Another wannabe on the wind-up or do they actually have inside knowledge. Let's see if he/she has the courage to tell us more.
However, Redbull does seem a worryingly similar username to a previously banned poisoned dwarf who has her head up Duffy's bottom, Reading Bullette.

| You misunderstand my comment - I have no doubt about Leon's ability - I have a lot of doubts about how he applies that ability, especially when the chips are down he has an knack of going missing. He's an old head, and I agree we are missing a ton of those, I just don't think the guy is a leader - his best days are behind him sure, but that wasn't the point I was making, I actually said this was something I felt the first time he played for us as well - although we were on top far more often then.
I'm aware beggars cannot be choosers, but just because there doesn't appear to be a better alternative, doesn't make the remaining solution perfect. Happy to eat my words if he gets us promoted, but I don't think he offers the solutions we need in the halves.

| Richard Marshall is an interesting one.
Every time I've heard him speak he comes across as very articulate, knowledgeable and observant. Would he take the view that he can only take a part-time team so far, and jump ship to come to the Bulls?
I'm sure Marshall is destined for bigger jobs than Halifax. Whether we fit into that category is debatable. Perhaps he'll stick around and wait for a SL offer to come. But how long would he have to wait?
I'd definitely take Marshall over Morrison though - he just seems to have a bit more about him.
