Not as a priority, no.
Morrison, Menzies, Burgess could all do a good job there in addition to Langley.

Do a good job, yes. Why have a centre? Sykes and Nero can both do a good job, and Crookes can aswell when he is fit.

I notice from the banner advert in that piece that skybet have us as 4th favourites to win the grand final 16-1, only behind Saints, Leeds and Wigan, probably says more about the bookies covering themselves rather than an indication of our true threat.... interesting though.

Which is why for me halfback is the priority for the solo cap space. We only have 1 half back signed up for next year so far, this area needs sorting as a priority before anything else IMO. Next then would be maybe (but I might be tempted to stick with Sykes/Nero/Crookes), then possibly prop and/or hooker depending on whats happens to Lynch/Newton, all before we get to LF, where as said, although maybe not perfect, Langley, Burgess, Morrison and Menzies can all do a job there.

Not directly. IIRC the issue was that Bulls expected the NZRL insurers to pay Hape's salary over that time, and assumed that that would not count under the cap. In the event I don't think they paid out?

| The big question surely is CAN Bulls tear up Sol's contract under the 26-week rule (assuming his contract contains that clause...suspect it might not?)? And if so, WILL they? Given he was injured playing for us.
Bulls did it before with TV and TKL, so they could sign Harris. Hmm...

Crikey, I know we need a half back but I don't think Harris is the answer.

But IRC you can cancel the contract if the player seems very likely not to be able to play within 26 weeks? You don't have to wait the 26 weeks?
Does the player's insurance cover loss of earnings in this situation?

I think they can but if they do then what kind of message does this say to other players potentially thinking of signing for us especially with overseas stars?

Isn't the 26 week rule a standard clause for SL players?

I assume you don't have to wait 26 weeks but you must pay him for 26 weeks. A bit like in lieu of notice.

If you mean whilst he sees out his time at the club whilst we're still paying him anyway, then yes, untill the end of the season I'd go with that - hopefully he'll contribute as much as he can off the field to help the club when he can.
If you mean keep him as in give him a new contract for next year, then definately not.

| Based just on what has been in the papers, Sol's injury is a sight worse than the one that finished Terry Holmes, and while they can do a lot with modern surgery techniques, ATEOTD there is a very serious risk of re-ocurrence (as Sol's re-ocurrence itself illustrates). A risk which I don't think the club can afford to take.
I still believe Sol has got plenty of rugby left in him, and wouldn't be against some sort of new contract, but it would have to be on some kind of play-and-pay basis, we can't afford 6 months of top whack wages while he's injured. To protect himself he could of course take out a salary protection insurance if the medical omens were said to be good.

no, i don't think a new contract will be coming his way. for team morale we could try and get solomona turning up at match days or training. He can still go visiting schools as well to promote the bulls.

Yep, I agree with that - he can still have a positive impact for the club whilst he's here but his playing time with the Bulls is up for mine.

No thats right I dont think the club can afford to take the risk, and Sol himself needs to get the very best advice on what he does next so he does not do himself serious long term damage which might have consequences beyond his rugby career.

| Get rid asap as far as im concened, massive let down and must take up a big chunk of salary cap too.
We have some money to spend, we didnt end up with Bird in the end so with Solomona leaving too I expect some decent players to come in at the end of the season otherwise I wont be too happy.
