I agree. I'd rather have Sykes at 6 than Thorman. BJ has been our best half this year and our 3rd best back imo (behind Halley and Nero). If Thorman is being signed as backup that would be ok, but I doubt we would be signing him as back-up when we have Sykes who can play in the halves.

I dont even see the point in signing Thorman as back up when we could have a youngster at our club and in our current first team squad provide it. There's no reason to be paying an established super league player to be just cover.

Also if Semi goes are we signing a winger or going with Platt/Halley? I think we'd need to go get a suitable replacement winger if Semi goes.

If Semi goes we need a new winger as neither Halley or Platt can match his runs early in the tackle count (although due to speed Halley comes close).

Neither Halley or Platt are as good wingers as Semi full stop. So the problem would be if Semi left we only have a "yet to convinced" Sheriffe as an out and out winger given that Halley has pretty much made Full back his for now and left Platt covering across the backs.

BJ leaves we only have Deacon as an out and out half back.

Lots of business for the coaching staff to sort out, but if our new signings are from other superleague clubs we wont find out until their clubs finish the season.

Isn't Thorman under contract at Hull anyway? We'd have to pay a fee to get him.

He only signed a 1 year deal with Hull for this season iirc.

We're definitely looking light on numbers if these reports are to be believed.

If Semi goes we've only got one specialist winger, who has yet to convince (I'm assuming that Halley has the No 1 shirt nailed down for next year)

If BJ goes then we've only got one specialist half back, and he's definitely on the downward slide.

I'd suggest we need two more wingers, so we are not relying on the same two guys every round or have to shift Halley into a less effective role. And we need two half backs - going into a season with only two has proved to be a mistake IMO.

I'm not going to get to dissapointed just yet, and I'm desperatley hoping we sign a half back with some craft that can make things happen. However at this moment things arn't looking to great. I can see us losing Semi and going with either Rudd or Halley on the left with Platt back to full back. I can't see any other change in the rest of the 3/4's so believe we'll be stuck with a very similar poor backline to this year.

As I say I hope we manage to get Brough from Wakey, but that would cost us some pennies I believe, and as people like to say 'we dont have any' allthough I don't know the full story there, but Deacon is here to stay for another season at least.

Can't decide about the pack, but my gut instinnct is that it's continuing to be watered down, presuming that Morrisons departure will mean Burgess pushes up to the backrow, that's going to leave us short on a top prop, because I don't rate Glenn Hall as a quality frontline man and L'Estrange isn't anything on Newton either.

If it was me doing the recruitement, I'd be looking for a half back and a prop as top priority, then followed by a winger.

I don't think its as a bad as what it is being painted - or at least, I think there's a possibility that things could improve

Morrison must have been one of the higher earners, and him leaving frees up a fair bit of money. Assuming that we lose Tadulala, Jeffries, Cook, and perhaps one or two other fringe player, plus the money saved on Newton and Tupou that must add up to a decent amount.

So far we are only confirmed to be bringing in Glenn Hall and Heath L'Estrange. If L'Estrange is on roughly what Newton was on, and Hall is on the same (or even a bit less) as Tupou that still leaves a fair amount of slack for new signings.

In short, I think we will sign several more players. Now, whether those are going to be players like Thorman or - please no - Ryan Bailey... or whether we will sign genuine quality, well we will have to see....
