If Herbert is as shocking as you make out, then how the stat man at opta must be doing something seriously wrong.

He has a better assists per game stat than Rangi Chase, one of the best halfbacks in hte league. Okay, he's made more errors and given away more penalties, but he's playing in an inconsistent unsettled side. Herberts also making a lot more tackles, with alot less misses. Pretty much matches Chase for tries per game too.

Somebody with an average of 1.5 try assists per game would struggle in the pennine league? I'm beginning to think Herbert must have run over one of your family members.

Re-Sign Kearney and L'Estrange. Give new contracts to Ah Van, Elima, Ainscough and Herbert. Sign Leon Pryce and Chris Bridge (if Warrington let him go as Rhys Evans and Matty Blythe are getting good.)

Kearney and L'Estrange should be signed up asap. I'd agree with the new contracts, but I'd add Royston aswell. Walker needs more time to prove himself.

I'd like to see Pryce back, but only if we arent paying megabucks and if he overcomes his injury problems. Can't see Wire letting Bridge go, even with the emergence of their new stars. Remember King is probably leaving too.

I think if we do sign Pryce, we should look for a quality centre or half from Aus. If we dont, then a 6 from Aus is top priority.

Well most coaches would care about his assist stats. You dont want a SH who doesn't create anything. Like i've said before, he's not brilliant, but he's doing a decent job.

I'm not disregarding the poor stuff - he definitely needs to improve his kicking game, especially his long one. But I don't think you should disregard the good stuff. His assists are impressive.

his best position is fb thats where you will get the best out of him and from what i have seen when watched bulls on comp or sl show herbert hasnt been that bad

Yeah, Shad's best game was last night IMO, where he played full-back for the whole game. The problem has been moving him about to accommodate BK, but now he faces an extended spell out, we'll see Shad develop.

Shad has been steady while switching between Full back / Centre and defending as a Stand off but really came in to his own against Catalans and made some massive tackles that kept us in the game and also made some big yards in return. Someone mentioned his lack of pace, I think he's decievingly fast to be honest, ok maybe not Ainy/Raynor fast but still.

To join the argument, Herbert has gradually got better as the season has gone on and is steady if not spectacular and at the moment is still 50/50 in my mind to get a new deal next year but I hope he continues to improve and prove the doubters wrong.

think if shad has a extended run at fb hopefully u will see the best of shad as a fax fan i havent seen many of your games but do look to see if shad has played how has he done and he went well last night at fb against cats the tackle he did in second half where he stopped a try n took the ball in the process was good anyways all the best for the rest of the season and see you down at the shay in 2 week or so

Because we have a huge lack of any creativity. Will be interesting to see if this try assists rate keeps same all season.

Eddie mentioned this stat yest and all of a sudden numerous people have mentioned it. Whilst it shows he ain't that bad, lets not act like he's a lot better than he is either. He's hardly stood out against the big boys.

I'll be honest I was hoping for a bit more from Mr Herbert but he is starting to improve and if this is only one positive, his pass to Elima for the try against Leeds was top draw. I think he'll contribute more as season goes on but not convinced he's a long term solution at SH

Yes we need an organiser (Sean Long in the Hull Derby was doing this all game long on Friday) but we've got what was available. When was Potter confirmed as coach? Remember he was full time coach of st Helen (trying to win SL) whilst trying to rebuild us. He's a lot closer now and able to make decisions first hand rather than based on other peoples opinions. Also the Orford scenario was ongoing and the success of the pledge scheme unknown. I think we can give him some time ( I know we've heard that before during the Mac Namara years but what else can we do. )
