It was completely made up. Prior to 2006 nobody thought of 1907 as the beginning of the club. It wasn't the beginning of the club. It was the beginning of the Bradford Northern name, but otherwise there was continuity of players, administrators and spectators. It was the same club, bar those that had left to form Park Avenue, that it had been in 1906.
For me it's more that an event that had previously only been known as The Great Betrayal was suddenly, with about two months warning, the greatest event in our history. If you were going to go with an event as being the forming of the club then you'd either go with the first one or the last one, and 1907 was neither of those.

I don't see why. At least with the 1863 date you can subtract one from it and get a date when the club didn't exist. That strikes me as a good criteria to use.
