I don't think any coach would have done better at Quins; the whole clubs seems to be run on a shoestring and it was a hiding to nothing in many ways. They seemed competitive early in the season but when the injuries bit it was just too much for a thin squad to overcome. Strangely, I can see comparisons with another club, a bit further north, which had a similarly thin squad, where the coach left early and which had a similar season.

I don't think Brian Mc can be judged on his spell in London though to be fair he hasn't had any funds and no real chance of attracting decent players. Hope the guy does well for himself and good luck to him!

I don't buy this 'no coach could have done better' shtick that QRL believists and Leeds fans have been peddling today. I'm pretty sure Noble, Kear and Potter would all have eclipsed the brilliant Brian's achievements for us.

I don't remember 10 + years of Bulls success??????
Don't really know how well Mcdermott will do, not worried though..... Yet. All teams go through this period, I just hope the transition is more smooth than that the bulls went through. None of the players we have lost thus far are great losses other than Eastwood but time will tell.
I wouldn't be too smug yet though, you have a coach who wanted a job back home but wasn't good enough, and lots of mediocre players, not particulary impressed with any of them, but again time will tell. But Sibitt, raynor, Walker do not shout to me world beaters

| I'm not sure about McDermott. I would have preferred an Aussie in the Nathan Brown / Michael Maguire mould. Time will tell I guess. Certainly makes for interesting times at HQ. Makes you wonder how much this is a response to the performance of the team last season.
I had heard earlier in the season from other Leeds fans that McClennan has to spend a lot of time looking after a sick wife, maybe this is part of the equation, although nothing has been mentioned officially as far as I know.

You seem to be though - your touch, that is. If you need to resort to selective quotes without showing what I was commenting on. Poor show - you can do much better than that, and you know it too.
Frankly, I'm worried about you. I think you have been forced to share a paddock with so many fekkwits on Substandard for too long, and their deficiencies in basic trolling skills are rubbing off on you. Its not too late to lift yourself above their level though, but I'd not leave it too long. We'd hate to see you spiral down into the mire of mediocrity that seems to claim so many promising young journeymen trolls on Substandard. So think on!

There is some odd misplaced smugness on here today, Leeds' coach resigning is no cause for us to celebrate and, if our cycle of success lasted ten years plus and Leeds' only lasted 4, I'm a bit miffed that we only won the same number of championships as they did.
McDermott is a gamble and I'm not sure if I were in Leeds' position that he would be the man I went for however if it doesn't work out I doubt Hetherington will hesitate to make the necessary change.

You need to retune your receivers mate, there isn't any smugness, just some reasonable winding up of our touchy-touchy whino brothers

Do you not see Scott Donald as a great loss? I remember watching Leeds a couple of times when he was injured and thinking.....if that was donald it would have been a 4 pointer! Just my thoughts mind you I could be talking utter Sh!te....
And whilst Sibitt, raynor, Walker are not seen as world beaters, Sibitt is a back up (which we had none of last year) Raynor is a world ahead of Reardon on the wing and Walker is an improvement on Nero IMO.
Believe me if you would of had to watch Bradford for the past 2/3 years you would be over the moon with these signings

In the bigger scheme of things he's no loss. However, as the team gets older we are beginning to have a worrying lack of pace in the side.

As I posted on the previous page.
However, don't get too carried away. When Bradford's decline under McNamara set in the Bulls were losing big name players like Peacock, Pryce and Fielden in quick succession, a certain player was taking up too much of your salary cap, and the ability to pay a full cap had diminished (at least for a season or two). As none of this has happened at Leeds (yet - although losing Eastwood was a big loss to the side), I don't see us plumbing the depths of SL any time soon.
That said, I have no expectations that Leeds will be winning any silverware next season either. It will be interesting to see how McDermott goes as coach. It certainly has many of the hallmarks of the McNamara appointment at Bradford, and I wouldn't be surprised if things don't improve, or get worse. Then again, there's also a slim chance that McDermott will develop into a more Brian Noble-esque coach (i.e. British and successful). Who knows - I suppose that's the great thing about the unpredictability of sport. It would be foolish of anyone to utterly reject him now or pronounce him as a definite future success.

Fair point and TBH I think it was before Lee Smith came back that I was watching the games, who I think is a very able replacement (as much as I dont like the guy)

| I'm not entirely inspired by the choice of McDermott, but I think a lot of this comes down to the fact that Hetherington has brought forward the start of the rebuilding that was already marked for 2012 to a year earlier. In the long term that's probably not a bad thing. I say that because Hetherington seemed particularly upset by leeds' Wembley 'performance' - which would not have been much different had Peacock played. Follow that with being flattened at home by Wigan in the Play Offs (lacking only Peacock and McGuire of note) and I suspect Hetherington decided to act.
In terms of players, Leeds have been stuffed up a lot by the Eastwood saga. We got one year out of him, but I suspect Leeds did their utmost to persuade him to stay. In retrospect we should never have made him come over when it was clear he didn't really want to. As it is it would appear that we left our recruitment for next season way too late - hence signing Cross rather than someone else.
Given the need for change being decided upon late in the day, Leeds were never going to be in a position to recruit a top Aussie coach for next year. McDermott has been given a difficult task, and I just hope Leeds don't scrimp on the important things - rather than trying to sign another average Aussie I'd rather Hetherington looks to bring in some really good backroom staff - a young Aussie assistant with plenty of ideas and up to date thinking would be the way to go IMO.
