I'd been led to believe that it was Nero that wigan were after.

I don't know his name but he's Leeds Rhinos management.
I guess it's in the public domain now with the bloke at Huddersfield also knowing.

Not a chance. The rumours doing the rounds in Wigan are that Fielden has already signed a 3-year deal on severely reduced terms, (I think the condition being that he'd accept a big pay cut if he could be given a contract of decent length) and Coley is to be signed up for another year before retirement.
Add that to the fact that we've signed Lima, and the chairman is looking to Lee Mossop to put on some size and convert from second row to prop, (similar situation with Hock when he returns.)
Hoffman can double up in the front row due to his sheer size. (~6'5" and 18 stone)
There's also Prescott, O'Carroll and young Chris Tuson.
I make that 6 out-and-out props and another 3 who can cover. I think we'll manage without Nero, thanks.
Anyway, on topic, the rumour that Feka is on his way over to Odsal has being doing the rounds in Wigan now for a number of weeks. I think there may well be something to it.

So, with all those props, you may well find you need the odd centre. Like perhaps....errrm, Nero?

| If we sign Paleasina it means either Nero or Menzies aren't staying doesn't it?
Nero is our best centre and Menzies is IMO our best overall player. I hope we know what we're doing.
Paleasina is also notably less effective in attack without those extra pounds. If he is coming our way do we get him to pile the flab back on so he has an impact going forward? Or do we keep him as he is so he's less of a weak link in defence?

I think there is something about him coming off the quota when he next signs for another club due to being here long enough, can't remember the exact rule.
FWIW I really hope this rumour is wrong, IMHO I don't think what we need to be spending our diminishing funds on is a defensive liablility who might only play 20 - 30 mins a game. He's averaged 58m per game this year, compare that with 75 for Hall and 64 for Koppy and I don't see the upgrade.
Hope Im wrong if he comes and his impact outweighs the negatives but he's not a player I would sign.

I believe that both Paleasina and Nero come off quota, so theoretically we could have both of them plus Menzies.
While I agree with your unhappiness about signing Paleasina (and I certainly haven't given my approval ), perhaps the more relevant comparison might be with the 0 minutes and 0 metres from Sculthorpe.

The sculthorpe no show this year has really hurt us in the front row, so yes if Paleasina is on the same or near enough the cap space as Danny then that would be an improvement. Its just I feel Paleasina is a luxury type player that we simply can't afford to carry with our current problems.
We need another experienced prop alongside Lynch and Scruton who will consistantly make yards for 60 mins and be a positive impact in defense. If we already had 4 props in each match day 17 that do this and our backline didn't need a complete overhaul I'd welcome the Paleasina signing. But any rebuilding money needs to be spend elsewhere IMHO....
...have I pursuded you to veto the signing yet??

Was Scully only on a year contract or are we working on an assumption that we will invoke the injury clause thingy and release?

Two year contract, and I think we've missed the boat on the injury clause. I was rather hoping for a 'mutual agreement' [size=50(not sure if you can have an agreement that isn't mutual!)[/size.

It was a two year deal, I'm hoping he can recover enough to play next year, but if he can't my [iguess [/iis he might retire with a suitable pay off arrangement rather than us have to invoke the not fit to train clause.

My sarcasm detector is being fixed so I can't really tell if you mean it.
On the basis that you DO, then its a bit harsh to blame Macca for not forseeing a freak infection to the poor lad.

| When the history of this season comes to be written in a calm and rational manner, is it too early to point out that it will say our cash-strapped and thin squad had a criminally bad run of luck with injuries which must have played a very significant part in our predicament, including cornerstone signing Sculthorpe, season ending injuries to Donaldson and Orford, Langley's problems etc etc etc.? Or does it still just count as lame excuses at the moment?

Or, indeed, an outrageous suggestion that just because we had a six-figure annual bill to keep paying to someone else, this makes some difference to our financial ability to recruit. How lame is that? Pfft.
