I'm not entirely sure thats the reason. The school where I teach is closed, not due to health and safety but due to the fact that no staff can get in! Would it not be fairer to say that in the 50s, 60s, 70s (when I went to school) more staff lived nearer the schools in which they worked and so could get in more easily?
My children's school is open, but the vast majority of teaching staff (unusually) live near the school.

at my school they used to open as normal, wait until the busses all went off and then send you home. Cruel 8uggers

A few today have done that, opened as usual and then shut at 11. That must be far more annoying for the parents.

Have been off all day anyway. But could have made up to Harrogate for work as they replaced the roller skate like BMW 130 I had last year with 4WD VW. Like Lizzo without heating at the moment so decked out in snow boarding gear.

They were asking why Britain grinds to a halt on the news with a bit of snow before christmas. An expert said its better we put up with days like this than investing in costly infrastructure thats used infrequently. Guess we'll have to see how regular events like this become!

Bloody funny-looking Maldon sea-salt at the depot in Ilkley I drove past today then...presume this is the lower-quality stuff they dispatch to down-market places like Otley and Addingham and try to avoid contaminating Ilkley roads with? Maybe half-and-half in Burley?

I think I have it the wrong way round though. The way I look at it:

Person who can't be bothered and just phones in saying they can't get here = Free day off work.

Person who digs his way out of the drive and struggles into work = Has to cover the work of 4 people.

Precisely what I'd thought. Since you don't need to here, there's no incentive at all for people to struggle in. Having walked round the building this morning though and seen less than half of the staff of the whole place actually here, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not long before they change the rules.

You do it because you care, because your stubborn and because its a challenge you rise up to. The fact others don't make it in for whatever reason some good some bad is irrelevant.
I'm the only one in at my place of work, others could make it in but were told not to, but like Kev I'm a stubborn bugger, so I'm in.

Freightliner Leeds is shut, Freightliner Manchester is shut, Very little coming out of Freightliner Brimingham and EWS Wakefield is moving but slowly. Port of Felixstowe is shut and Port of Southampton is shut with operation stack being imposed. That basically means all the people cheesed off at not receiving containers yesterday are even more cheesed off becasue they've had non today and now I'm rebooking tomorrows deliveries.

I think I've done more work at home than I would have at work. That's not the idea I'm sure...

We've had a load of snow, but the main roads are clear. I got into work in South Oxford from Bicester and apart from the small roads without much problem at all. Can't imagine what it will be like next time, as I am sure that Thames Valley has consumed its entire supply of grit by now...
