| Quote ="Bullseye"I think it's far too early to judge the new halfbacks. If we get our attacking line stood deeper and employ some dummy runners and give the playmakers more than one option we should look better. Whether this will happen we'll have to see, but it's clear what the problem is so McNamara will know what needs addressing.
As for other players I think there will be some pressure on Worrincy and Halley. Neither did very well last night IMO and there's plenty of competition for backrow spots. I would bring in Whitehead for the Saints match. Even if he doesn't really solve our lack of penetration in the backrow he's a more competent defender.'"
Too right. I think worrincy is someone to have in once a bit of tinkering has been done to sort out our defence first.

| Quote ="JUDGE666"Right..This is my view of last nights defeat..
The half back partnership of Orford and Kearney clearly is going to need time to gel, our forwards are not on the same wave length as Ox yet especially his short ball passing which went to ground a lot..Kearney does look like he will be a dangerous attacking force when he understands his role and link up play..
I was dissapointed with L e'strange and Hall, but again can't be too critical until they have played more games..
Reardon, certainly an eye for the try line but was way out of position for 2 of theirs..
Infact we were awful defending around the ruck and if we don't tighten this area Saints will have a field day nezt week!
On a positive note i thought Sheriffe had a good game and made some good yards running the ball back, for me it was a toss up between him and Langley for MOM..'"
Maybe best merged with the main thread so it does not get lost? Cos that's another of what have been IMO a string of excellent post-match analyses from various posters on here.

| In the middle of the park the Bulls were fine and the stats will show they had the possesion but blew in the last 10metres in attack and defence, despite Ganson hammering the opposition for a change we lacked the guile and timing to make it count! Shudders defence was solid but it was enough as the Bulls didn't make them struggle! Still plenty for the Coachs to work on tomorrow starting with the match review (or b0ll0cking time as its known) Langley needs his @rse kicking as once again he gave away needless penalties to give the opposition easy ground and the chances to score which they did!
Early days yet and the signs are that we will improve, but the doom mongers will feel they were right, we will see at the end of the season

Personally I thought that Orford looked decent, L'Estrange should have been rotated more frequently and that Kearney is not a 6 and I'd rather see him at fullback, partly because I've always had concerns over Halley's size and predictability, particularly with a bit of second season syndrome layed on.'"
Halley is taller and heavier than Kearney.
Plus, Kearney has looked impressive at both 6 & 7 in all the pre-season games, we just need to give it time.
I do agree though, later in the season if we need to try something fresh we could see it going like this.
Kearney
Halley/Sheriffe
Crookes/Platt
Nero
Reardon
Sykes
Orford
Then the forwards prety much the same. I do think if we are going to use 2 hookers, then unless one is playing a blinder, it should be 20 minutes on & off in each half for both.

Tbh I don't think there will be just yet, no-body played a blinder last night. I do suppose later on in the season we might want to see how Reardon or Kearney fare there though.

| Worrincy was dire, and wasn't even good in attack last night. It should certainly be Whitehead's turn next week.
I also think unless one of them is playin outstanding, it should be 20 minutes in each half between the hookers.

Its great when a side lose their first match huh? Leeds lost at Cas, why don't you go post that on their board?
People seem to be taking alot away from Hudds last night. A lot of errors were our own fault but a fair few were forced by them and overall their defence was excellent, they'll be a hard team to beat this season.
We will improve on last year.

| While I agree with a lot of positives that have been mentioned, & I know it's only our first game, but it has been said that we are aiming for top 4 with a grand final appearance in either competition. It's hard to accept we lost our first game. I thought the lads played really well last night, a much better performance from some of our plays last season.
We need to be much better than just playing really well, if we want to put our club in a big mix towards the end of the competition.
Last year is over, we've moved on, but I fear it's already starting to haunt.
Still head up, and let's hope last night was a wake up call that maybe a few of the lads need to ensure we are going in the right direction.
I remember feeling rather annoyed and frustrated at us coming away with a draw at the start of last seasons campaign.
I'm still really excited about our team and I can't wait for next week against the Saints

Well said Ewwenorfolk (never thought I would say that )
Leeds were pants at Celtic because Celtic played well for 65 mins, Leeds lost against Cas because no doubt Cas were the better team. Bradford lost against Huddersfield because you made errors enforced by a great defensive effort.
As I said before Bradford will win alot more games than they lose playing like that but sometimes you have to swallow your pride and accept the best team on the day won.
Orford looks a great signing and alot of tries will come from him, your pack will out muscle alot of teams and Sherrife look good last night IMO.
People seem to forget it's one game into a new season and nothing is ever won or lost after 1 game. Good Luck for rest of season.

Seeing that abject failure of a coach moving one game closer to the sack is about as enjoyable as it gets these days.

To be fair Stul he missed alot of things such as when Sherrife swung at Hodgson and when you knocked on but we still had to drop out, also watch sky again when Orford kicked and Gilly got sent to bin, Kearney looked possibly offside and when jumped for ball against Brett hodgson wasn't looking at ball at all just went for man.
Also missed lying on from Langley most of game but sent Robbo off, don't think we were lying on any longer than the Bulls but we were on wrong end of alot of decisions
That aside it's expected with Ganson in the middle as ws mentioned long before the kick off

Watch the video, you weren't. I thought you were a little hard done by when I was at the game, but having watched the video, your discipline was shocking. That needs sorting out before you come up against a team that will take advantage of it, which sadly we couldn't.
The messing around ruined an otherwise superb defensive display from Huddersfield.

| It's about time they gave up on the "special project" that is Worrincy. With so many top rated young back rowers banging on the door, I have no clue why they continue to play Worrincy. We all know where his strength lies (the angled line running), but he shows absolutely zero signs of improving in his obvious weakness areas.
Time to let Donaldson, Whitehead & Olbison take over.
As far as L'Estrange goes, much like Kearney & Ox, he needs a bit of time to get the timing with his new teammates. Was a little odd how he wasn't interchanged quicker though.

McNamara did a similar thing against Hull KR IIRC. I think L'Estrange is a better distributor from dummy half and perhaps a little less individual than Wagga. I think there is definitely an argument for giving Wagga some gametime towards the end of each half when teams are beginning to fatigue. Perhaps he left L'Estrange on because we were starting to find our way back into the game in the final 15 mins or so of the first 40.

| Well after having a few hours to chill out and watch the replay a few times I have come to the conclusion that we wern't as terrible as I originally thought. Very rusty all through the game when theey shouldn't be but there was some good things at time and a lot of room for improvement.

Anyone who was at last week's Fans' Forum and the previous one will have a better understanding of the issues the club faces, and why things are as they are. And there remain very significant further issues that the club is unable to discuss. Things would be very very different indeed if we had a Moran or a Davy on board.

I actually enjoyed the replay more than the actual live game (perhaps the alcohol and curry had more to do with this). There were some disappointing aspects to our game but I saw some reasons to be optimistic that we can expect a better quality of Rugby this year.

| TBTH I always thought Heath was an average player and last nights performance kind of reinforced that belief. I'm not Wagga's biggest fan either but he sure as hell needed bringing on after 25 minutes last night. I cant understand why Macca kept HL on for 55 mins. Bad option especially when we needed a spark and some injection. HL distribution was woeful at times.

True. I don't dispute that we have improved significantly with the financial input from Moran. It's just a shame that someone somewhere doesn't have the money to seriously redevelop Odsal. My friends and I have long commented on how a place of such size could be turned into the Wembley of the north and with really top facilities would attract challenge cup semi finals,FA cup semi finals and so on. Some of that money would go to your club, and in turn your team.
