Mick, Nickle was in the Bulls side in the 1997 challenge cup final.

There were three tries in that final where the ball was not grounded correctly (two to saints one to bradford) however Nickle did not score either of those Saints tries as he was not a Saints player (Tomlinson scored Bradford's). We were also second best in that final regardless of any decisions which went against us.

Easily, and without a doubt. Saints played much better than us (and Robbie's injury did not help) and were deserved winners, regardless of any dodgy decisions. IIRC Goulding's grubbers caused us no end of grief.

Mick they outplayed us. Was clear from early doors that they seemed more eager. I came out of the ground feeling a bit let down by the players, to be honest.

There are plenty of other matches where we looked the better team and inexplicable decisions cost us; but not this one.

I must also come clean on leaving the game thinking how on earth did we let this one slip throw the fingers to give us our first loss of the season.

Lucky for us we got revenge just six days later at Odsal in the Cup Final rematch live on Sky with 17,000 packe din to see the Bulls win 38-18 with Steve McNamara scoring the best try of his career, going in from 50m out.

I might go upstairs and watch that game now, beacuse Russell Smith gave them a very debatable penalty try.

I remember snapping and binning my flag on the way out in a moment of petulant anger as we just didn't do ourselves justice that day. On reflection it was more to do with saints just being better than us on the day.

Or was it our tactics? We rarely looked like breaking down their defence to be honest. Did we do our homework on Saints? Goulding's kicks seemed to come as a bit of a shock to us, sort of unexpected like, though I don't know why, I mean half the crowd could have said "watch Goulding when he shapes to kick......... ", in fact I think we did, but we [istill[/i fell for it every time.
Saints looked the most lively side, and, to me, gave the impression of wanting it more. They were certainly the more aware team, probably more awake as well. I'm still sure we could have overcome all our little inconsequential failings, if only we'd not worn that damned yellow shirt!!
