I suspect the RFL wouldn't accept that as the 'franchise' is surely only valid for the business that wins the franchise and would be 'not transferable' without express permission?

Nope. For a start, we didn't have franchising back then. For second, both Hull and Gateshead were existing members of SL. And finally of course neither club was in administration.
Other than that a perfect analogy.

| Can anybody give me an idea How Much BG & his firm are charging per day/week for running the Bulls?
I would estimate maybe Ā£30k a week but would be interested in Adeys view on this.
Whatever the amount in effect its money going out of our game and really should be stopped asap.

Based on my experiance representing creditors at similar sized businesses it would be closer to Ā£10K p.w.
Its still a licence to print money when the true costs will be around half of that.

| I have been reading with interest the posts on this and other links and thought it was about time I did as the name suggests and grab the bull by the horns and put my two penneth in.
There appears to be two main camps, one which feels that Peter Hood did the best he could with the cards he was dealt and one which feels he was to blame for making a bad situation worse. I believe the reality is somewhere between the two, I know splinters from sitting on the fence.
Peter Hood is the austerity accountant to the free spending Chris Caisley type figure trying to create growth through spending. Neither worked, maybe, with hindsight a steady year on year slow growth brought about by small on and off the field improvements would have built up a loyal fan base who understand even the mighty Bradford Bulls cannot win everything every year, instead of the young kids who went on to other interests once their parents stopped paying for them to go and of course the glory hunters that ābuying successā brought. Again, when you have a fan base who are used to success, however that success was achieved, maybe to stop this cold turkey so as to speak, is not the best way to go.
The on field performance of the team again left a lot to be desired and made even some of the loyal core supporters question attending 100% of the home games leave alone the away games. Personally I can only put this down to the coach; he may have been unlucky with some of his signings, but some signings beggar belief and the way the team played week in week out at times looked like a group of playing their first friendly of the season before they got to know each otherās plays.
One question I donāt believe has been asked is, why at Easter when the pledge was called was Peter Hood able to find another circa Ā£400K from local sponsors to make up the funds required to see out the season when for four or five years during his tenure these avenues were not explored or if they were not to the extent of securing the commitment to give.
The future, well if the last few home games are anything to go by, if a buyer with sufficient funds to finance the club has been found, then the future look very bright indeed, whichever league we end up in. The atmosphere at the last few home games has been electric.

Hull had gone out of business and were refused entry in the lower league as a new club, Gateshead moved down south to Hull and set up business leaving Hull to go bust and Gateshead were able to register twice as many players as everyone else, did you forget about that part?
The Hull club to this day are registered as Hull Super League LTD!!!!
It shows that the RFL will allow a club to up sticks and move, i,e Gateshead moving to Hull!!!
But I guess you missed the point and need things explaining like a small child!!!!

If my memory serves me correctly (and it's not as good as it was ) all Super League clubs had shares in Hull FC for a time.

| I've just been assured by someone who was involved with the Bulls in a senior capacity at the time that this was indeed the case and that these shares appeared on the Bulls balance sheet (and presumably that of the other clubs).

I received a copy of the accounts, as a shareholder of the club (albeit a very minor shareholder!!), in the Annual Report.

I see, it would be interesting to know if all the SL clubs have had a stake in the same club in the past!!!
I am not sure this would have had to happen in the Hull and Gateshead situation though.

It was around the time when Gateshead 'took over' Hull FC then moved, lock stock and barrel, to the Boulevard, changed their colours to black and white and their name to Hull FC. IIRC their coach at the time was Shaun McRae, who moved with many of the players from the Thunderdome to the Boulevard. I think the shareholding by other clubs was to facilitate the take over.
I think it's fair to say the circumstances weren't [iexactly[/i the same, but the old Hull FC club were in dire straits and the reverse takeover saved them - and unfortunately killed Gateshead of course. There is nothing new in in other clubs taking shares a in a troubled club.
