I dunno - in the Championship as a number 2 to O'Brian I think it was do-able (considering how overplayed he was in the end). Maybe he wouldn't want to be, or couldn't do it - but the point is, as good as Gaskell is, we need someone who has been there and done it and as others have said we haven't had that for a while. Realistically it may not have been him, but I would have at least asked the question - but I think now we do need some old heads in there as more than once this year the naivety of the squad has shown. We'll get better with age hopefully, but it's just that bit of experience lacking we need.

He was having regular pain killing injections in his feet to get him through his final season with us. I don't think it is realistic to suggest he could of carried on like that for another season.

Actually think Adrian Purtell made a good Captain - leading, encouraging and motivating.

Me to think he has done really well, nothing spectacular but consistant which is what we need, id have him as captain and maybe clough/sidlow as vice captains.

Need to move Lauaki on ans lose a couple of backs (we have to many who will just be taking up cap space, how we lose is another matter entirely).

Sowerd isnt wanted by the NRL any chance of a season long loan deal?, we are in desperate need of an organiser in the middle, Gaskell is more off the cuff and Seijka dosent know his from his elbow sometimes.

Id take experience over anything atm, to steady us and allow us to imporve.

Yes Bb87 I would rely on experience, our recent experience shows that we will get three impact props that combined play 10 minutes in total (no not per game, in total), with all the impact of a gnats fart at 200 paces.

Given we have Gaskell for the off-the-cuff star quality play, I'd be happy with an old stager at 7 who's lost his pace but proven organisational abilities. Obviously I'm thinking mainly of myself, but given I have work commitments there must be someone else in their mid 30s that fits the bill in a "get us in SL or bust" sort of a way.

Very frustrating to see both (potential) middle 8 rivals Salford and Wakefield sign Gaz O' Brien and Liam Finn respectively, after several people had highlighted them as being exactly what we needed.

Such is the lure (or lack of) of championship rugby I am afraid. I guess the only option is to grow your own......and we just sold ours to Keighley. D'oh!

Yes I made the point on Twitter that however you feel about Wakefield we can all agree that for the sake of the sport any signings that strengthen them is a real shame.

I also tweeted Liam to ask whether they intend to keep him in cotton-wool for the Million Pound Game or will play him the regular season.

Bit gutted that we lost out on Liam Finn to Wakefield, of all teams. He would have fitted the bill exactly imo

Still, getting in the end of a hiding every week at the bottom of SL is obviously more attractive than playing for a winning team. Either that or the money he's getting from the larger salary cap.

No you're wrong they're a much better prospect now they've got Brian Smith.

They've replaced a coach that only beat 3 Superleague teams with a coach that's failed to beat any. But they were a lot more competitive and played a much more attractive style of rugby.
