| Quote ="Bulliac"That was my first thought too. Especially, as Gerry pretty much pooh poohed the idea at the recent forum, giving reasons why it wasn't really feasible. As the RFL have the primary lease and we have the secondary, I can't see how or who is going to OK this, even if some kind of outline planning agreement was given. Though, that said, I would have to think they wouldn't even apply without being sure they could get agreement from the leaseholder[s, so who knows what's going on in the background?
As someone who really enjoyed speedway in the past, at Odsal and and Halifax, I suppose I might be expected to be supportive, but in truth, I find the track a negative when watching rugby and, as far as Odsal is concerned, I'd prefer less space between the fans and the match, not more.'"
Seems like the guy putting application in hasn't bothered talking to RFL at least.

Seems a very strange carry on. Sutcliffe talking it down, RFL not consulted yet he puts a planning application in?

| BRADFORD RETURN UPDATE
Thursday April 18, 2013
TONY Mole, the man responsible for opening and rescuing a number of Speedway clubs down the years, is continuing his plans to take the sport back to Bradford.
And Mole, based in Kidderminster, has revealed how he plans to revive a great name from the past should he be successful.
The sport was last staged at the world famous Odsal Stadium in 1997 when the Dukes, under sporting brothers Allan and Bobby Ham, swept to the Elite League title.
Odsal hosted two stunning World Finals in 1985 and 1990 when thousands flocked to the West Yorkshire venue.
Now Mole wants to bring the Dukes back - under the name of Bradford and Halifax.
He told speedwaygb.co: "I can confirm I have met Speedway Control Bureau officials at the stadium and it is possible to meet all their requirements for a new track.
"I have written to Bradford MBC with an application for certification of established use as the sport was held there previously with no known objections.
"I have exchanged drafts of licence agreements with Bradford Bulls Rugby League club although these are subjects to solicitors finalising them.
"The freehold is leased by Bradford MBC but when the Rugby League club hit problems this was taken on by the Rugby Football League Council. We would need their approval but we cannot discuss the matter further with them until we have planning confirmed.
"Not only can I confirm we can meet SCB requirements, but we can have a potential FIM track which would give is the option of major events once again.
"There is still a big demand for the sport in West Yorkshire. The Bradford and Halifax Dukes would attract plenty of interest.
"And I'd like to thank Allan Ham, the previous promoter at Bradford, for all his help and advice."

| So doesn't look like the Coral Stand is a problem. Obviously some pits would be needed but they don't have to be as big as we use to have.

| Anyone can apply for planning permission on anyone else's land. Even your own back garden and that's old hat

This bit sounds a little like the "exchange of licence agreements" was with the 'old' management?

Yes, someone was interviewed. They also spoke to Gary Havelock (sp) but that might have been last night.

| As a Speedway fan, i'd love to see it back at Odsal. Still watch it now on TV and think that we (the Dukes) were probably to worst done to in the whole Super Dome episode.
Imagine what would have happened if the Super League champs were just wound up as the council "thought" building work "might" commence imminently. Well this happened to the Dukes and we have a long history with Odsal so I'm hopeful it will come off.
If it does, I can see them being parachuted straight in at Elite level tbh so crowds might not be an issue.
The issue with bolts/damage to the pitch was nothing to do with the bikes... that was the stockcars (bikes actually tended to stay on the track or just to the edge if it broke down) which I really wouldnt like to see back.
With regards to the corners, I used to go down on a sunday morning with my dad and lay the corners. It was essentially turf laid on large wooden boards so it was quite easy to lay, if not hard work and i'm sure that if the banking gradient did not change then it wouldnt be too big a difference as it is now.

| To be honest, there is no actual 'need' for banked corners in speedway anyway and many tracks are flat.

| Considering the pitch at Widnes, it might be possible to make the corners out of that coloured, rubberised tarmac they use on playgrounds. Sorted!

| Well if the speedway guru wants to bring it back he should pay for the improvements to the drainage, why don't we get a heated pitch whilst we are at it also, makes sense.

| Digging the pitch to improve the drainage lol we could have it rated also.
This is all up in the ailir anyway need both parties to agree to this idea or it will be dead before it starts I don't see a problem apart from the drainage, as mentioned. A lot of the grounds are differwnt sizes and no one moans so why would out up turned corners gives us home advantage which I though was the point of playing at home.

| On the face of it, with the season as it is [we seem to be playing every week Feb to April, then twice a month in summer it seems logical. To be honest though, if money were to be available for spending on the pitch, I'd go for upgrading the drains and re-laying.

No don't be silly, if its done properly with thoughtful planning don't see why it cant work.

| Having the slopes is pretty silly, and frankly I can't justify having them there for home advantage. I'm pretty sure we were instructed to flatten them out when we returned to Odsal.
I honestly can't see the RFL agreeing to this at all. I'm not sure I want them to either.

Well, instructed to or not, they've all but disappeared these days - which I must admit amuses me when commentators refer to the corners as if they were still the same as 25 years ago
