I agree, this is one of the areas in which we're lacking. He reminds me of Fa'asavalu when he first came on the scene, lots of aggression and power but that seems to have been knocked out of Maurie of late. Something I trace back to him being mullered by Sam and Big Joe a couple of seasons back at Odsal



However to have someone of his size, strength and impact upon the bench would improve us a lot - I guess that's why we were looking at Moi Moi, who would be very similar. I'm not convinced that lighter weight, more mobile packs are the way to go just yet, and I doubt Sculthorpe will have quite the impact. Scruton seems to want to put himself about a bit and he was certainly an impact off the bench last year, maybe we should start with Koppy and Lynch, and bring Scully and Scruton on in future when they're all available.

I must admit I'm intrigued by how G.Burgess would go, but don't want him getting busted up early in his career, having said that i had similar worries about Sam and look how that turned out!

I do think there's milage in starting with Koppy and Lynch and employing Scruton off the bench. It'd give us a lift toward the latter part of each half. At the moment Koppy's not yet providing much go-forward in comparison with other impact forwards but may do as he develops. As for the backrow it appears that Worrincy has been earmarked as our impact player. He runs a good line occasionally but he's certainly some way from providing a consistent threat to the opposition.

As for the Burgii I too like the look of them so far, they've already got the size but wouldn't want to throw them in before they're ready.

On Sunday we were quite good between our 20m line and their 20m line but shocking inside the 20m lines. Its ok for fans to take some comfort from stats, a tad worrying if the coaches put too much faith in them.

There's only one stat that counts and it read 24 vs 12 in Huddersfield's favour on Friday night.

So in a hard fought game which we lost say 26-24, would the scoreline be the only bit that counts? Even if we made very few errors, missed very few tackles and made loads of metres?

The important question would be why, having made very few errors, missed very few tackles and made loads of metres we still lost? The stats wouldnt answer that question.

If the other side makes lots of metres aswell? You don't have to miss tackles to let in tries.

No. You can tackle somebody going over the line wothout holding them up, the man is still tackled but gets the ball over the line.

What you need is a specialist type of player who is completely useless between the 20s but can put in neat little chips & bombs in the oppositions 20. I wonder if such a player exists?

That is a missed tackle. If you watch sky a try is classed as a line break, so a player can't make a line break and be tackled at the same time. To concede tries you must miss tackles.

Personally I thought Langley was very good Vs Huddersfield, he got through a tonne of work in attack and defence.

But yes, pretty much the scoreline would be what matters. Hell, we had enough 2 point defeats last season. I didn't go away feeling glad about the metres made.

Only if I can cash in mine from 18 months ago about Worrincy being god awful

That's because Hull were playing Saints, who couldn't tackle their way out of a paper bag on Saturday night. So I wouldn't worry about that stat.

Stats are like mini-skirts. They look good but hide all the important bits.

Like I said the scoreline is the only stat that I'm interested in. The situation above would suggest a close fought defeat. Still a defeat though and someone else walking off with the two competition points. The coaches should be able to tell who's best for the team from what they see in a match and in training. Personally you could see Langley getting stuck in with the tackling last Friday.

Scorelines are like anything else though you can't take them in isolation. Personally I'd give it ten games before making comments about the squad and/or coach.
