Good luck in avoiding the professional beggars who frequent the city centre

Are you dead set on curry?
This place is literally just over the road from the Leisure Centre

Very tasty food at an extremely decent price

| Quote ="Lefty"I am coming to Bradford on Saturday on my holidays
. We're staying in the holiday inn express at the leisure exchange. I have not been through all the pages on the thread, as I would imagine the hotel wasn't built when it started.
We could do with a bit of scran before the game and was wondering if there were any good buffet style curry houses in the area of the hotel that would be serving at around half 3 / 4.
Any suggestions?
We are then having a night on the tiles in Bradford for the first time! Wish us luck!'"
There are a few ways to do this, I would say it depends on whether you want to finish up at the top of town at the New Beehive (an experience; a vintage gas-lit pub full of character and with some characters in it) which happens to be almost next to the Westgate, a tiny cheap and cheerful formica table curry house with basic food of epic and consistent standard - my personal favourite - can't go wrog with mixed starters and a chicken masala with tandoori rotis to die for.
Or, you could finish at the Fighting Cock, to the west of the centre, and walk up the hill to the excellent Punjab, a much more upmarket place, and featuring the wonderful Chapple Kebab.
I haven't been for a while so can't confirm if the Cock and Bottle is open at the moment but if it is, the interior is a true gem and worth a visit. Would suggest a taxi there. Then make your way downhill via North St to the excellent Corn Dolly. A few hundred yards down Bolton Rd is the Ring Of Bells if you need an extra or walk straight to the Shoulder of Mutton in the centre.
Then it's up Piccadilly and onto North Parade to the new and brilliant bier cafe, The Sparrow
Then make your way to the New Beehive. If going on to the Fighting Cock from there, it's probably worth a taxi as the taxi office is just next to the Westgate

| I'm new to this thread so don't know if it's been recommended already but Bharat in Great Horton is always worth a try. Ive been going there for years and even though newer restaurants have opened, this is still by far my favourite.

I'd agree, but it's out of the city centre and a little bit more upmarket (expensive) than either the punjab or the Westgate.
If your'e willing to come out of the centre, up Leeds Road, above Akbars Cafe and the new fire station is Mughal's. Well worth trying.

| You haven't been out in Bradford for sometime FA. The Cock and Bottle or the Ring O'Bells have both been shut for about 3 years!

It's not that, my drinking time is strictly rationed and when I can go boozing at a pub it will invariably be the Fighting Cock. Also regularly call in at t'Sparrow but that's usually a lunch or shortish visit, not been there on a full sesh yet. [size=85 =#4080FF{note to self}[/size Tend to pay on-the-way-home occasional visits
I did say that I [ididn't know [/iif the C&B was currently open and that's because it keeps opening and closing. Last couple of times I made a point of a trip to it, it was closed, but they are few and far between, and it could well have reopened, with the crazy vicar, or someone.
It's a shame whenever it's shut. It truly is a wonderful old place. But that, I'm ashamed to say, is probably a big part of the problem of unique gems like the Cock & Bottle. We love them and think they should be there forever - but unless we patronise them regularly it is no surprise if they can't make ends meet.
As for the Ring of Bells - personally I'd crack on straight to the Shoulder of Mutton anyway and bypass it even if it was open!

| I'm sure I heard somewhere that cock and bottle would reopen as a cafe, this would be better than most alternative uses as it would allow the interior to be open to the public. A pub would be preferable, of course.
I hope Lefty has a good time in Bradford!

| Any one know anything about the new curry place opposite Richard Dunn's?
Hard to tell from the outside whether its going to be good value for money or just a bit of a rip off...

| They are going to offer cheap season tickets, eat all you want once a day for a year @ Ā£75. Ā£125 if you want a seat.

Thought it was 60 quid and eat as much as you want all year.
Totally unsustainable.

| First trip to Bradford for years yesterday (and in the off season, too).
Of course, there was nowhere else to go except for Omar Khan's. Straight in at 5pm. The big man was only there fleetingly, but it was good to see Sutcliffe pop in for a pint.
We had the banquet for four. Delicious, although not the Bradford curry experience I remember from my younger days in the city (cutlery, rice, tch).

| Boxing Day at the Coral Stand. Meal provided by OK; Ā£14.95 per person
Arrived 2:15 to a buffet that we learned was originally put out 12:30, though this was not said on booking the tickets.
Starters only of meat & veg samosas & pakoras which were all somewhat dried up and cool.
No kebab of any type
Good salads table including coriander leaves which I love.
3 decent mains of lamb, chicken & lentil with a tasty rice, but again all a little dried-up
Naans were cold - but put through a microwave when we asked.
All the plates were cold and the staff did not seem to understand they should be hot.
Sweets were a decent range of traditional cold offerings.
Overall disappointed as expected OK to be setting his standards much higher than this.

| Went to the 1875 Restaurant above Menston train station last night. Absolutely fantastic from start to finish.
I had the Paneer for starters and followed it up with the Goan Soor Masala. Potentially the best curry I've had all year. Highly recommended.

| Went to the International for a pre-christmas curry. The Karahi Mutter Paneer was exceptional, very sarcastic waiter but I think that added to the ambience.

| Been to zouk twice over the holidays and it was exceptional on both occasions. We tried to get into Akbars but it was rammed. It always is and we've never managed to get in on the four occasions we've tried.

| Sampled Omar Khans last night and I was impressed with the quality of food. Will probably ask for my curry a little hotter next time though, but really juicy meats in the curry.
I had the tandoori mix starter and the mixed karahi.
