The former Wakefield Trinity director Chris Brereton is heading up a consortium leading a takeover of Championship side Bradford Bulls.

The Championship side announced on Sunday that they had conditionally entered into an agreement for the club, which will see Andrew Chalmers vacate his role as director of the Bulls.

Chalmers said the individual heading up the UK investor group is ‘well known in rugby league circles having last served as a Director and owner in the Super League”.

That led many fans to speculate over whether Marwan Koukash was the man responsible – but League Express can confirm that it is in fact Brereton, who was the second-highest shareholder at Trinity prior to his departure from the Super League club.

Brereton led a takeover of Wakefield in 2013 alongside Michael Carter, who remains at Belle Vue as the club’s CEO.

Well the cats out of the bag now.
Those on here that are in the know may as well tell us whats going on

so yet another owner with no money behind him.

So if it's Brereton, what's the 'agenda' here?

Has Chalmers failed a 'fit and proper persons' test and been forced out by the RFL? Or told that the club wasn't going to be coming out of special measures with him still in charge?

Brereton doesn't seem like a moneybags, unless I'm missing something. So why the change of ownership at this point in time?

I assume given no previous link with club he'll be the RFL's 'safe pair of hands'? Bit like Steve Ferres was perhaps...

TBF he was a safe pair of hands for Wakey. All I personally want is to watch my rugby team and not worry about off field issues.

Chalmers reduces the liabilities by leaving Odsal. Then predicates players leaving by not paying pension contributions, hoping the higher paid players will trigger clauses in their contracts and leave, thus further reducing liabilities. This paves the way for a quick sale to recoup his investment, and he disappears off back to New Zealand

Might be 2+2=5 - but it fits what we know, and Rogers repeated accusations of lies and stuff going on behind the scenes?

I notice nobody has mentioned the bit about the fans forum tagged onto the end.. is that a hint of a supporter led role within the consortium or am I reading too much into it?

AFAIK Brereton didn't have anything to do with the Glover ownership. He and MC came in and saved them from oblivion from what I remember. Perhaps Wakey fans can shed more light on it.

If Brereton brings with him the Wakefield sustainability model, then Bulls future is much brighter.

It doesn't mean miracles, but it means the risk of going bust again is 0% and it rebuilds goodwill within the business community.

And that really is all most fans want.

To be honest I think the vast majority of Bradford fans would accept and be happy with this. Even if it was someone with koukash esque money coming in (which seems unlikely) I for one would like them to use that money to cover the bills and give us a stable club to which we can keep building on the way we seem to have for the last 3 years or young homegrown and doing things the right way

What has AC being doing for the past 3 years if he just sells us on to this set that seemingly don't have enough poke to run this club? Theres no money to be made running BBRLFC and a set like this cant afford to lose 250000 or more.

Surely this can't be it?

I think I'm correct in saying that Brereton and Carter were on the Trinity board of directors(we haven't been called Wildcats for a couple of years now) whilst Glover was in charge and both saved us from oblivion at the 11th hour when they realised what a complete cock-up Glover was making of it.
They both then steadied the ship over the next few years before Brereton then stepped down last year for reasons that I am not aware of.

I actually thought that this off season was going to be uneventful !!

CRazy stuff again.

My initial thoughts on this are:
If we are to get new owners who have a track record of running a club properly and to a budget then that is good news.
I do not want to see us being made to go back to Odsal as this is money down the drain just keeping it as a dump. Lets play in the ground we are going to at a very reasonable rate which will give the new owners time and money to spend wisely. Then, we can all hope that with new owners the council can work with them at looking for a new small stadium development.
We don't know all the details yet but on the face of it AC has come to the end of the road and will undoubtedly come in for a lot of criticism and abuse. He may deserve that but one thing he did do is keep us going and from closing down. Lets hope we do get new owners who will take us on and upwards and end all these troubles that have gone on for a decade. Maybe AC did what he was brought in for and the end result is about to happen. I don't know but am used to having my fingers firmly crossed these days.
If this happens then this time we haven't lost everyone including the young lads that kept happening in the past. That for me was always the crying shame and still rankles with people when we discuss the youngsters we lost in admin. We can always find older players and as long as we are all prepared for possibly quite a few years in the championship lets all hope this is eventually good news.
Still got fingers crossed.
