May mean we can make improved offers to some of players that are borderline retentions/targets too.

The Salford fans seem very happy about this over on their forum, and I must admit, I'm slightly pleased we could be getting rid of him. There's no point having players in our squad that don't want to be here, for whatever reason. Whitehead wants to leave because he wants to join a top four club, and so he could join a club in the bottom four. Also a six figure sum would be nice.

We haven't heard whether he is willing to go yet..

Didn't Elliot reportedly say he wanted to play for the bottom club who could conceivably scrape into the playoffs in 2014 and might hope, with sustained investment and some luck, to become a top 4 club in about 5 years?

So as a top four club goes, it's a long long haul Elliot...the only consolation he and his agent would have is if he does sign for Salford there is only one way to go, from where they are!

Sorry that it's ended this way, but if the transfer fee is £100k, it's better than having a player who want's away.

Much prefer Omar's brand of diplomacy, ie the coach recommends and the board find the budget ,if possible, for what he requires to build the team.

I know Brian, and if it's one thing he can't stand is the MD making the team decisions. He believes like most of us that Directors direct- Coaches coach-Players play and Supporters support.
With Salford the Owner seems to do everything, it's no wonder the players give lack lustre performances.
When did Salford supporters once shout Marvin give us a wave...it must have embarrased him at the Salford game when our fans were shouting for Omar to give 'em a wave...and of course he did! That's how to win Hearts and Minds.

It really is quite worrying how obsessed with Salford you've become, seriously mate do yourself a favour and let the obsession go and concentrate on Cas, all this built up jealousy or whatever it is you have against Salford isn't doing you any good.

Despite Koukash's rattlings about big name signings nothing had happened for months
Until now with the Whitehead signing for a substantial sum of money.
It does now seem to be a commitment to expenditure and a statement of intent.

There is little doubt in my mind that Brian Noble would not have joined Salford without being assured of a War Chest to significantly improve the entire team.
So a large signing on fee and a considerably better contract for Whitehead is a start

Confirmed on T&A website this morning that Whitehead has turned Salford down.

I wish he hadn't turned Salford down. The good that would have come to us from the money. We really could have built for next year . At least the thought of Nobby crying into his weetabix that he can't sign any players will make me smile this morning.

Catalan looks like the only viable option now. Perhaps a swap deal could be arranged if the Dragons are reluctant to pay a transfer fee?

Looks like some negotiation to be done with Catalans. Shame the Salford deal didn't go through from our POV.

I'm really starting to think something else has gone on here that has made EW want away from the club.
Even right from the outset, there was no logic whatsoever behind both the timing of all this and also his reasons. He wants to join a top four club, but did he honestly believe that a club aspiring to finish so far up the table would have cap space free mid-season to accomodate him?
Surely neither he nor his agent are that naive.

So most people then go on to assume that he was tapped up, perhaps even by Salford themselves. But it has been weeks since his request to leave was submitted, the club have had only one serious offer, and EW has rejected the move. So that pretty much rules out the tapping up theory imo, otherwise surely a deal would have been done by now.

The report in today's t&a mentions that FC and EW spoke last Friday, but they were unable to reach a 'reconciliation'. I think there is more to this than we are being led to believe.

Whitehead wants to leave, and wants to go to a top 4 club. Those are his demands. However he won't get what he wants unless Catalans or whoever are prepared to stump up. In the meantime Cummins isn't going to welcome him back into the fold or let him go for peanuts.
