| On the kick time and day - do people think the traditional Sun afternoon is still the way to go?
I do prefer the Saturday tea time kick offs

Depends if you take into account away support.
Tea Time / Evening kick offs can be off putting to away fans because of getting home late, especially if the opposition are a bit of a distance away.
Personally I like home games being on Friday nights, but I would expect families and away fans would prefer Sunday afternoon.

| It's all about routine. Back in the day, it invariably was what it was, and so the match day and time was part of fans' ingrained routine. The more you mess around with exceptions, the more you disturb the routine, and if a fan misses one game because of the change of K.O., and realizes they survived, and the world didn't end, I think it increases the likelihood that they might miss future games.
Overall I'm sure Sunday 3pm suits more than it doesn't, and of course if you want to attract young kids then night games are a poor choice. Successive administrations ( )have largely kept Sun. 3pm as the standard K.O. and so I'm assuming the stats back that up as the best chance of a maximised return.

| Quote ="HamsterChops"All Whitehaven's home fixtures this year are on Saturday evenings with a 18:30 kick off, so it's clearly a choice rather than something forced on them.
With the exception of Workington, I can't see them getting good away followings at that time, as it means fans are getting home very late. It certainly affected my decision to not make the trip.'"
I know of a few people who, with the kick off being so late, decided to stay over nearby. Perhaps that's what they're going for. With all the naff weather up there recently I'm sure the local businesses (B&B's, pubs etc) could do with the extra trade. I see what you mean though, on the other side it will have put some other people off.

| Warnings of travel chaos getting to Widnes - if you haven't seen it, this is from the Bulls website
Quote TRAVEL ADVICE FOR SWINTON GAME
ROADWORKS affecting the Select Security Stadium for Swinton Lions clash.
Bradford Bulls take on Swinton Lions on Saturday and the game will take place at the Select Security Stadium, Widnes.
Widnes Vikings and Halton Borough Council have advised any fans planning to follow the Bulls across the Pennines for Saturday’s game that major roadworks are currently taking place within the vicinity of the stadium.
Travelling By Car
Leave M62 at Junction 7 and take second exit onto A557 Watkinson Way (Expressway)
Take first exit signed Widnes North (also brown sign Halton Stadium)
Turn right at roundabout on to mini dual carriageway
Take third exit at next roundabout into Derby Road (signed Halton Stadium) and MOVE into right hand lane as you approach traffic lights
Turn right at traffic lights onto Lunts Heath Road (signposted Halton Stadium)
Continue along this road ARRIVING AT a roundabout and take first exit onto Birchfield Road (signposted Halton Stadium)
Carry on along this road (KINGSWAY) and continue through a major set of traffic lights
TURN RIGHT at the second set of traffic lights into Milton Road (Riverside College on corner)
Take first exit LEFT into Caldwell Road and car park is on the LEFT hand side
Please do not use your Sat Nav and please allow a few minutes extra time for your journey.
Travelling By Coach
Leave M62 at Junction 7 and take second exit onto Watkinson Way (Expressway)
Take first exit signed Widnes North (also brown sign Halton Stadium)
Turn right at roundabout on to dual carriageway
Take third exit at next roundabout into Derby Road (signed Halton Stadium) and MOVE into right hand lane as you approach traffic lights
Turn right at traffic lights onto Lunts Heath Road (signposted Halton Stadium)
Continue on this road ARRIVING AT a roundabout and take first exit onto Birchfield Road (signposted Halton Stadium)
Carry on this road (KINGSWAY) and continue through a major set of traffic lights
TURN RIGHT at the second set of traffic lights into Milton Road (Riverside College on corner)
At the next set of traffic light turn left into Lower House Lane and allow spectators to alight the coach and make their way to the Stadium on foot (5mins walk)
Once spectators have left the coach please move your vehicle to the council depot, which is situated slightly to right of the mini roundabout as you make your approach
At the end of the match spectators can access the coach, which you should park opposite the place where spectators were dropped off
Please do not use your Sat Nav and please allow a few minutes extra time for your journey.
The above roadworks are as a result of a new Mersey Gateway Crossing (Bridge) being built in the borough. This is scheduled to be opened in late 2017.'"

This is exactly type of game we should be giving likes of Thomas/lumb/halafihi etc a run out in. Certainly not mass changes but at least one of them should be included to at least get some game time off the bench and give one of senior players a breather during match.'"
It looked like we were gonna have a front row forward crisis until Clark returned - Kavanagh and Clough being sat out for a while should give plenty of game time for our backup front rowers, but it seems Jimmy rates the likes of Clark and Walker higher than Lauaki. I wouldn't expect to see Lauaki too often this season as a result.

| Just posted this on Trust In Widnes for a Swinton fan so though I would share it here as well.
The road works are between the roundabout by McDonalds and the bridge for those that know the area, not too bad coming from your direction, best way to avoid all the roadworks is:
Come off at J7 on the M62,
Take the first exit sign posted A57 Warrington,
Turn right at the first set of lights, follow the road to the end,
Turn right at those lights then first exit at the roundabout takes you onto Birchfield Road, (where the train station is),
As you pass Wade Deacon school on your right take the next right, Highfield Road,
Straight through the lights by the Albion pub and you're there.
Hope that helps and have a safe journey.

| Quote ="debaser"Can I ask a dumb question?
Why are Swinton playing at Widnes?'"
Because their ground isn't currently fit for purpose. It doesn't hold enough people for Championship rules.
And they've had problems trying to get up a temporary stand to make it fit, with some form of bother with the council.
Quote from a statement they gave:
Quote Swinton supporters will be aware of the ongoing difficulties that we have experienced with Bury Council regarding our planning application for a temporary stand at Sedgley Park. The RFL has strict minimum standards conditions for clubs entering the Championship, the most significant being a minimum requirement for 750 seats. This condition is being rigorously enforced by the RFL and therefore without the requisite seating we are simply not allowed to play at Sedgley Park, regardless of the expected attendance.
It is now clear that these planning issues with Bury Council will not be resolved in time for our home fixture with Bradford Bulls, which was originally scheduled for Sunday 21 February. We continue to co-operate with Bury Council, but we are increasingly pessimistic regarding time-scales for season 2016 even if our application is ultimately successful.
We have therefore been actively investigating contingency plans, but unfortunately our preferred venue (the AJ Bell Stadium) is not an available option on the weekend of 20/21 February. The reversal of our fixtures with Bradford was also considered, but unfortunately had to be ruled out because of arrangements Bradford already have in place with their sponsors. In fact Bradford have been very supportive of our predicament and we’d like thank Marc Green and Steve Ferres for their kind co-operation.
A number of venues have been considered and visited, and we can now reveal that our home fixture versus Bradford Bulls will take place at the Select Security Stadium, Widnes, on Saturday 20 February 2016, kick-off 7.00pm. Lions fans will of course associate the ground with the scene of our dramatic triumph in last October’s play-off final victory over Keighley.
We totally empathise with the frustration of our supporters that this announcement will inevitably cause, but we ask that you stand by the team and the club during this difficult transitional period. In some ways we are the victims of our own success, but in staging this fixture at Widnes (and on the date and time stated) we have simply had no choice. In fact Widnes RLFC have worked tremendously hard to accommodate us and we are thankful to them for their kind hospitality.'"

Crap for them, I agree. They played their first game at Salford as that's a lot closer, but as the statement says, it wasn't available this weekend. So until they sort things out with the council, they're having to live like nomads and turn up wherever someone will have them.

| By the look of him, Mathers needs exercise a lot more than he needs rest.
Mind you, I have actually been impressed with what he's done when he's played, he still looks very good for this league. Might turn out to have been a very canny signing, that.

| I'd start Mathers as he clearly needs to get up to match speed, but I'd have Thomas on the bench and spell Mathers rather than shift him to the wing as it means Thomas gets some game time as the more game time the whole team gets the better as it is going forward

| I would give Gaskell a day off and play Thomas on that plastic pitch. Putell can then switch to SO and move Thomas to FB when Mathers starts to drag his feet. We should be OK to deal with Swinton and still give one or two fringe players a run out otherwise they never get a game and all of a sudden it is the middle eights again. This must be the game to do it.

Yeah, I agree with that. I've criticised the non-rotations as much as anyone, but we've only played two games so, unless there are any bad knocks or strains, I'd go with pretty much the same again at this stage.
