| With more than half of the regular season gone I thought it's an appropriate time to discuss our player of the year options.
For me, there are only two serious names on the list.
1 - Matty Dawson. Been a revelation since his move into the centres. Tackled like a demon last night and whilst clearly a very limited Championship-level player, he's easily been our best this year.
2 - Louie McCarthy Scarsbrook. I love him, alice band and all. He is the one forward we have that actually puts the effort in and is so much fitter than the likes of Amor, Walmsley and Richards. He gets a lot of stick, but he's been our best forward. Give him a new deal, he thoroughly deserves it.
I'll add Kyle Amor as a very distant third, with Theo coming up on the rails because of one great performance.

| Matty Dawson is a major reason why our attack is completely dead on one side of the pitch. Whilst he isn't found wildly out of position like Turner, he gets bumped off quite regularly. He did well to cut out a play in the first half last night, but got completely bumped off, which meant the Catalan attack could reset, and they scored off the next play. LMS needs to go, he (like Wilkin) just doesn't have a position any more - he has the physique to be a great wide running backrower, but his prop instinct means hes constantly running the drop off line back into traffic.
Amor for me, much improved and much more like the prop we signed. Does well to take the metres, doesn't get turtled as most of our players and generally cares.
Theo is second, 1 complete performance, but has shown more at halfback in half the games as everyone else thats played there. Patience is the key but I really think he could be the best there is in SL in 4/5 years.

| Amor is grossly unfit. Not as bad as Walmsley but both are a joke at present. Neither gets back onside before the fourth set when the opposition turns the ball over, which is a large part of the reason all our backs are always injured.
Dawson, Dawson, Dawson.
Having said that, if the season carries on this way and we miss out on the top 4, it'll be like the Aston Villa scenario and the lavish party planned for this will have to be cancelled due to fan unrest.

| Walmsley didn't have a pre-season; think it has affected his fitness this season, playing catch up.

| certainly looks a shadow of the player from last season Amor from my limited views seems to be recovering his mojo. As for Wilkin the proverbial riddle wrapped around n a mystery wrapped in an enigma...possibly been shunted from pack to half back too often?

| I'd love to join in but I've not seen enough matches to judge this year.
I can see were LMS and Dawson come as they are both players who try hard.
I'll never bag a player who tries hard and I always thought Dawson was better suited to centre but from my limited viewing the player of the year contender for me has to be Amor.
He is another player who cares and puts in the effort but he also has a better quality about him than Lms and Dawson.
On a side note I thought swift was looking very good until his injury.
Probably our top back of the year.

| Problem with Walmsley is teams single him out. They know if they take Robes and Walmsley out they virtually stop our attack/go foward.
Teams are ganging up on him and he's struggling. That's why we needed another prop. Tasi couldn't break thru a paper bag and is soft so don't help.

Agree somewhat on Dawson. But LMS for all his effort is a headless chicken - always cutting in to the middle where he has just got the ball from like hitting a brick wall. Does he even know we have a left side he might wish to go for?
I would put, based on the remaining players so far our players of the year at:
1. Fages
2. Dawson
3. Armor
4. No one else.

| Matty Dawson was almost a under the radar, uninspiring signing but Brown saw something in him. He's never got the respect or adulation from the Saints fans, there's the sense that we just carry him or he's there to just make the numbers up. Fact is, he's a solid, honest player and with the restrictions of the salary cap we badly need him. We need to get behind him instead of using him as an example of poor, underwhelming recruitment.

He's a "confidence player" for him it was wasn't doing him any good playing the odd game whether it was wing or centre. So far because of injuries he has got a run of games in one settled position which means he's able to put in a solid performance rather than a spectacular one, think KC will put him before JT at the moment, don't know what will happen when Peyroux returns most likely Matty will be shipped back to the wing.

Why? He's been poor all season. He's a big part of why our pack is getting demolished most weeks. Too slow from dummy half, dropping off tackles all the time and not making any real contribution with the ball either.

The only difference for Roby this year is the amount of offloads which is pretty poor, which is probably down to our style of rugby for most of the season. Roby still only misses 1 tackle in 20 same as last year and his metres per carry is more or less the same as well, when he does the occasional scoot, most of the time there is no support player backing him up. Walmsley is very similar as well, we don't promote the ball with smart play thats why we are so predictable.

He may not be at his best but Roby at half throttle is still better than most players in the league. The fact that he's not as good as usual doesn't mean he's worse than Matty Dawson.
