Quality player and I was v happy when we signed him, as you say though sadly he did not really settle and he wasnt helped by us playing with no halfback and for the most part being poorly coached (imo).

It's great from an international point of view to see him back to his best though

Always came across as a top bloke and someone who gave his all on the pitch.

He did get a bad injury in the final which didnt help things

Clearly Shenton wasn't happy at Saints. He's now happy again.

He's a class player in this league Shenton and I'm glad for him that he's showing it again. Should definitely be in with a shout of that left centre berth for England in the autumn.

Was allways a good player,but we played him on the right in a team with no real half backs and some average forwards,at Cas they are playing him on the left and have a good pack and decent halves

Shenton's a great player in the right team, but his strength comes from him getting ball while coming from deep. Unfortunately, our lack of available halves, inconsistent starting line ups and (once rush took over) narrow game plan didn't suit him. He did improve mightily once he'd agreed a return to Cas, though, which shows there were some physiological issues.

I remember him scoring at home (widnes) against Catalans, he hit a short ball from Leon pace at full tilt, absolutely class finish.

Shenton seems to have switched sides. Played down our right, has been on the left for Cas this season. Could that be the reason his form's picked up?

He was switched to the left as given the ball early, he is able to create space, and thats what we wanted for Carney

For me he has been for years and still is, the best defensive centre in the league

I wouldnt get too hung up on all this playing him on the right stuff, we signed him as a right centre and in his first stint at Cas he predominantly played there.

I'd say the other stuff mentioned about a lack of halfbacks and our limited game plan for a while effected him far more
