| Firstly, Nathan Brown must be questioned about the starting lineup. The 16-0 scoreline after 20 minutes was a direct outcome of the starting 13. You start your strongest, most secure lineup and you soak up that early pressure.
After those opening 20 minutes, where we were frankly farcical in probably the worst 20 minutes I've ever seen from any team, it was a brave effort. The players clearly spotted it wasn't acceptable and the likes of Wilkin and Wellens actually led the team for once.
Wellens was a hero tonight. I bag him constantly, but he deserves a brew after that showing. He put everything into that and us being on the back foot and scrambling around suits him as it doesn't expose his attacking frailty nearly as much if we're constantly under the kosh.
Stu Howarth put in his best showing so far as well, opening up Leeds a couple of times with clever distribution. But the Man of the Match? Alex Walmsley by an absolutely enormous distance. I'd love for one of the geekier people on here to come up with some stats about the score when Alex was on and the score when he was off the field. His impact is dramatic, what a player.

| Agree with most of that, it was the errors and in discipline that cost us early on rather than the personell in my view though

| What's the age limit on Young Player of the Year? If eligible, Walmsley should walk it. Been a sensational find for you guys.

| it was a tough gutsy display after the first 20 mins of shambolic bumbling . Wellens and Will in both stood up and as you say led by example.
on the other end of the scale though Perry was again pretty much turd and Ashe is never superleague class in a million years.
for the older posters here. does anyone else get reminded of George Mann when they see Willie Manu run?

| I'd have had Wellens for MOM. Howarth was brave and industrious but his service from dummy half is frustratingly slow. A couple of times we were offside at the kick because it took him so long to get the ball back to the kicker.
Jordan Turner was very good, I thought. Walmsley was superb again. Thompson was out of his depth in the first spell but came good once we were back in the game. Laffranchi was pretty anonymous and Perry was completely bobbins. Why no Clough?
Willie Manu could have a real impact on how the rest of our season goes. Abysmal for the first half, but instrumental in our comeback.

I agree with that.
On the subject of Manu, we don't use him correct, he's a player that is devastating with good ball, we are using him as a prop, he needs good ball out wide.
Thompson really struggled against a dominant Leeds pack early on but credit to him, he came back on and stood his ground. Nobody was stoping him near the line.
Wello was superb and in all honesty I'd leave him at fullback. I would play lomax at 6 with wilkin at 7. IMO lomax is the best fullback at the club but for the benefit of the team, I would play him at 6. The spine would be wello, lomax, wilkin, roby and IMO its pretty strong.

Maybe he's playing as a prop because some of the others aren't fronting up? Perry was again useless, LMS tried hard to be fair but just doesnt make big yards with the ball and neither does Laffranchi. He's kinda forced to do it because no-one else is, or that;s the impression I get? His ball for Makinson's try was top drawer.
Wellens, Soliola and Walmsley were superb tonight, those three drove us home in that 2nd half and really led the way.

| Hopefully we won't see Perry or lance in the vee again, they simply don't deserve a spot.
Ashe is clearly not the answer, surely charnock is a better bet

I'm surprised we've not seen swift at 6. He's played at 6 for England.

| Did Perry come out for the 2nd half?
I didn't notice him at all in the last 40 mins.
Your turnaround started when Walmsley came on and started taking the ball up and make good yards on every carry. Is he not ready yet to start a game?

| Just got back from the match, not read what everyone else has posted but here is my 2p worth.
First 20 - 30 minutes we where woeful. Dropped balls and penalties from Makinson, Manu etc just killed us.
I'd really consider not starting with Manu, he has great skills, but is far too eager to push the ball early. On a number of occasions he put us under pressure. I did not think Ashe contributed a lot, I've not seen him in recent weeks, but tonight he was pretty anonymous.
Did Perry come back on at all???
After what was a woeful start, there was a real manning up from the Saints lads, I could not pick a MOM as it was a contribution from all. We also got of help from Leeds who made some terrible errors. But we helped them earlier on so it's a fair trade.
Wellens was very good, ran through everyone, Walmsley is the future at prop and LMS as far as I could see, kept his penalty making to a minimum. Howarth is awfully slow at hooker, but he did have a hand in two of our tries so you have to give him credit for sucking in the defenders, but there were times where Leeds had 3 markers and just a dart from dummy half would have resulted in a penalty to Saints.
The 'high' shots on Bailey and Burrows where a joke, over the shoulder, but then we got one later on, on Walmsley.
A great result for us, but totally ruined my predictions for this week.

| Thought St.Helens showed a lot of spirit tonight, I thought they were gone after the opening twenty minutes and some of the goal kicking didn't give me much hope but the young players stuck at it despite some heavy hits in defence from the Leeds forwards.
One thing is for sure though, Leeds are a much better team with Brett Delaney on the field.
Paul Wellens was immense.

| Game completely changed when Puletua (who was great) and Walmsley came on.
Wellens was fantastic, my MoM by a distance. Howarth also played well.
Wilkin was annoying with his penalties and his kicking game wasn't great, but he was kicking off slow PTBs so if was understandable. We looked better organised with him at #7.
Perry can go now, what's the point at all? Only doing one spell again? I'd rather have Clough in over him.
Nathan Ashe? Ffs, he touched the ball at most 3 times.

That was a woeful contribution from Perry. If he's picked ahead of Clough next week I'll be fuming.

| Not going to get carried away as I thought leeds were appallingly bad, but fair play to the lads for showing loads of heart. Just hope brown shows some rocks and leaves perry and lance behind for the rest of the year.
All those who have been disrespectful to wello should give him credit tonight, he may not have been in good form but he runs through brick walls for saints. Good on you wello

| Percival struggled a bit defensively, but was well protected by Wilkin. Offensively he was very good. Makes breaks every time he plays. If he carries on at this rate he will be an absolute world beater in a couple of years.
Turner very good all round, tackled everything and strong taking the ball forward. Nearly burst out of a few tackles. Looked like St Pete had had a word in his ear about putting in that little bit extra effort .
Walmsley and Puletua. Devastating going forward.
Wello. Captains knock. Leeds still exposed him for lack of pace with deft kicks, but otherwise he threw everything into that performance
Manu showed a couple of times that if we have him running wide, he could give Percival and Makinson a try feast
Negatives
Perry played the first 15 minutes but isnt remotely match fit.
The opening 20 minutes of the match. Shocking composure and soft defence.
Kicking game weak, both field kicking and goal kicking.
Soliola brain fart that will see him cop a ban.
Ashe, anonymous throughout and struggled defensively.
Wello will probably play the rest of the season at fullback now, denying Lomax the opportunity to dazzle us.

To be fair, if he had played like that for the past 4 years no one would have been criticising him in the first place.
Games like that suit him still, but if we are ever in a game where we're competitive in the pack, his lack of contribution to the attack will tell.

| Forgetting the first 20 minutes i thought the character and spirit shown was stunning.Great effort to even get the game back level but to go on and win in the manner you did against top quality opponents was great viewing.Given all the injuries and disruption you guys need to just appreciate what your younger players are actually doing. All good experience for them and when the injury crisis starts to ease up you will be in a fantastic position for the rest of the season.
Walmersley was outstanding and if he isnt the best young forward out there this season i would be amazed.Wellens turned back the clock and put in a real show of skill and leadership and as a Salford fan i was really pleased for Stu Howarth.
So congrats on a great win and just look forward to what i am sure will be a real good second half of the season for you guys.
