Remains to be seen. But it's disappointing that there wasn't room for him at Saints, when Rush has clearly just departed the position Long has taken at Wigan.
Long is clearly a very talented coach, this was highlighted to the club when Daniel Anderson was around. He often relegated his assistant coaches when Long was injured, to have his input during games.

Time will tell.
Nothing wrong with him going to the pies learning his trade further then coming to us.
Sure we've done that before.
It may just be a better opportunity at the moment with the rumours of Harris joining Nobby again.

He's a Wigan lad who wanted to play for Wigan as a lad so it makes sense really that he should progress his coaching career at his home town club.

No trick missed. He was a fantastic player and may become a fantastic coach but eighteen months at one club is not enough to make him that yet. More experience from a second (and perhaps a third club) will only add to his vast experience and teach him stuff he will not yet know. Then he'll be head coach when just into his forties. Still young enough to actively take part in drills and training, still recent enough in players' memories to command respect and with twenty years playing and half a dozen years coaching knowledge.
If he were to come to Saints now, he would no doubt be exposed to plenty of stuff that he has already experienced from playing here, notwithstanding the couple of coaching changes since he left. I also have a thought that he wouldn't be Nathan Brown's type of assistant and add to that that his arrival would go some way to undermining Brown at a time when Brown's tasks are becoming more and more difficult.
He will be back at Saints before 2018
