| Reading in the Aussie press a switch to League is on the cards for one of the best union halves in years. He is 24 years of age and is coming back from a cruciate injury.. Must be worth Eamon having a sniff.. Discuss

| The rumour is he is joining SBW at the Roosters if he goes anywhere.
With the $$$$ available in the NRL signings of this standard are a thing of the past. The sooner we get used to it, the better.

| High profile RU players switching to league will only be doing so to play in the NRL.
And he'd be a non-fed player.

| Cooper and SBW may not be the last Union players to switch to the NRL.
When the new ARL TV deal and revised (upwards) salary cap comes in for 2014 there'll be plenty Union players' agents wanting some of that for their clients.
There might not be many Aussie union players as all the best talent comes to League anyway but over the Tasman there are some brilliant Union players who could adapt to League quite easily.
Then there's South Africa. Their currency, the Rand, is of very low value especially against a high value currency like the Aussie dollar. Some of them could make their way to the NRL for a slice of the Rugby League financial action.
The way it's all being talked about this ARL TV deal is really big money for Rugby League players and I can see some Union players being persuaded by it to switch codes.

Which could really give a boost to the international game and if Kiwi's, Pacific Islanders, South Africans are playing regalary in the NRL there will be a nmber of Aussies who have played first team nrl for years who can;t get a place in matcday squads and will choose super league over reserve team status.
Interesting times ahead

They've sorted that issue by accepting two additional teams, so there would need to be around 30 imports from Union for that to happen.

| I would love to see Quade Cooper play league. He is a bit of a maverick but I'd put him up in the league of someone like Anthony Mundine and his game is wasted a bit in union. He's also like Mundine in that he has an enormously high opinion of his own ability, and likes to pile pressure on himself by shooting his mouth, but he can also back it up on the field. Cooper going to Saints would be a signing up there with Meninga or Lyon.

Literally nobody has said they think it's true, the OP said he think it's worth us having a look, which it isn't there's no point. Everybody else has unreservedly dismissed it.
This isn't the Hull board you know.

Is he still up to it? If so, we should be chasing him and send Hohaia back as a makeweight.
I've also mentioned we should be trying to coax Ben Hornby into doing one more season.
Chatting with Dux over the weekend, he mentioned he thought that Liam Finn, the Featherstone 7, would be worth a punt.

Just a thought. I reckon we need a competent organising and kicking halfback. He doesn't need to be flashy at all - someone to do what Deacon did for Wigan in 2010 would be spot on. From what I've seen of Finn he ticks those boxes, although I'd prefer to see Gaskell developed into a top stand off.

Its not a bad shout, though.
Danny Brough, who is trupmted as a "real" scrum half, was picked up from a lower league club, wasn't he?
Besides, even in the Oldham challegne cup game, the opposition still had a bvetter kicking game than us.
Assuming he hasn't got a stellar job outside of league, someone like Finn shouldn't take that much persueding to come to saints, would he?

How much did we invest in youth when we were winning with
Long - Wigan
Sculthorpe - Oldham
Darren Albert - Oz
Martyn - Leigh
Lyon - Oz
Sean hoppe - Oz
Fozzard - Wire
Cunningham - Saints
Wellens - Saints
Newlove - Featherstone or was it bradford
etc
you get the point, youth production is fine, but it does not gaurantee success, it may gaurantee being at the top table for a sustained period as that strong underbelly keeps those in the first team pushing for places and gives us that support when injuries hit. But Youth is not the be all and end all. I'm a Gaskell fan, but I would not be against Prince coming over. However the deal Hull are looking at would not be something I would want Saints to do given his injury record.
I don't think he has been playing alot so it's a bit of a gamble to spend such a huge portion of the cap on someone who will be 33 for 3 years. Not many half backs I can recall playing at 36. If it was a 1 or a 2 year deal then who knows, but even that carries a risk if he is injury prone.
We got Perry when he was playing SOO and people bash the club for that, so if we signed a 33 year old who is not playing SOO or even playing because of injury, I can only imagine the comments.
