Following a great deal of searching my son managed to get hold of Chris Joynt's autobiography as a fathers day present. What a disappointment it was; it is without doubt the worst autobiography that I have had the misfortune to read and I have read quite a few. The last two were Longy's and Keith Seniors. Longy,s was a real page turner that I found impossible to put down. What I want to know is; what is the best and worst other members have read.

Paul Newlove's autobiography is probably the worst book I have ever read.

Radlinskis is the best I have read. I thought Longs was poor, bur Graeme Wests was awful.

I've read two.
I thought Joynt's was good. I really enjoyed reading about the changes in the game around '96 froma player's persepective.
Scully's was OK.

i know many of you wont read it but terry newtons was a good read.

Not sure where the OP is coming from Joynt's book was very good.

I would recommend Barrie McDermotts, Stevo's , Mike Gregory's and Radlinskis. Longy's had some of the best tales away from the game itself as you would expect. Sculthorpe's was a bit of a dry read.

Long's was very very poorly written.

I imagine the Alker book to have a few pages that are worth reading but then be a big miss in others.

Long's was a piece of fiction, in parts whereas Joynt and Scully wrote about the times and the changes to the game. Newlove's put to bed the story that he wouldnt fly, although very short in content it was a reasonable read

Quite liked the Alex Murphy one.

Which Alex Murphy one ? I think there are about three of his in print at the moment. Not that I'm saying Alex is trying to make the tales of his career spread out or anything.

The Saint/Sinner one.

This is one of the best RL books I have read really enjoyed it.

Another good read is Andrew Johns' autobiography...would possibly say that is the best I have read imo, some funny stories, good origin tales and a bit of controversy mixed in

Also been told that Wayne Bennett's 2 books are very good and motivational, and Shane Webcke's book is also meant to be a good read, but havent read any of them so cant be 100%

Longy's was entertaining even if the spelling mistakes were terrible. John Monie's was ok to read if a little unexciting , his comments on Wane are amusing

stanley genes book is pretty good

Simply rad was ok, well written but pretty bland a bit like joynts , Longy's was like him very entertaining, I wouldnt expect a pie eater to appreciate it though.

Dave Whelans is excellent and is a mix of business , sport and personal

Larry Writer's "Bumper, The life and times of Frank Bumper Farrell" is the only book which has a proper whole life view - absolutely fantastic!!!!!!!!!!

The vast majority are dribble - issued to make a few coppers at the ends of careers, transcribed by a few journos yearning to be real writers.

Andrew Johns' book by a country mile. Rivalled only by Agassi's as the best sports autobiography i've read and I reckon I've got over 100 on the shelf at home.

Want to get Gorden Tallis' book for my dad's birthday, but Amazon don't seem to have it - anyone know where I can get it??

Came out in 2003 I think it was, but can't find it on Amazon or Ebay, and not sure if anywhere else in UK would do it...

I was so looking forward to Newloves book but it turned out dreadfully written. Hope Gary Connolly goes ahead and writes one as he has hinted at. For me it is Wayne Bennett , Scully and iestyn Harris
