| I'm looking forward to these as they are always a great read and there is some sound discussion, which hopefully more people will join in with this season!

Ditto. Even if we don't agree with them all the time good RL writing is a premium product these days.

| Is there a good RL writer currently employed by a mainstream newspaper these days? I'm struggling to think of one. I mean even Dave Hadfield seems to have fallen back on hurling a fistful of moth-eaten cliches at the page and linking them together like a dot-to-dot pattern.
Carney's not too bad on the box (relatively speaking). But I don't recall reading anything of his recently which has stirred more than a glimmer of thought past the last full stop. Dave Woods couldn't cover nuclear Armageddon without making it sound like a Tupperware party. Andy Wilson? The last time I heard his writing was being investigated by the World Health Authority for producing Ebola-like symptoms.

That's probably the least intelligent and most immature response to an OP that I have seen in a very long time, and I've seen some utterly stupid and childish responses.
Grow up.

I feel like Alice, through the rabbit hole and into some weird kind of upside down back-to-front universe. I mean, being accused of childishness by the winner of The Entertainers Most Childish & Immature Poster Award 2008, 2009 & 2010 is some feat.
I gave an honest appraisal of the standard of RL writing as I see it. I'm not here to flatter anyone's ego and I don't believe in mincing words. Dave Woods, Andy Wilson and company are all grown men. They won't melt like chocolate bunnies in the face of a choice arrangement of vowels and consonants.
I don't recall you springing heroically to the defence of Mr. Wilson on ANY one of the NUMEROUS occasions he's been accused in here of being biased in favour of Wigan. I wonder why?

And you think I'm more childish than you?
I haven't even noticed Andy Wilson being 'accused' of favouring Wigan. I don't care who he supports. He is a very good writer and a very keen RL supporter. He is also the one remaining dedicated RL correspondent in the broadsheet world. I don't read the Guardian but I do think it is a good thing for rugby league fans to support what we do have because otherwise it will all be gone. I also happen to believe he is a very good writer. (And I very often disagree with him; part of the fun of debate I find)

This is getting tedious.

I was about to post something along the lines of us having very different measures for judging good journalism and writing in general but ...
