Read comments from Flannery earlier this week that he would like a further contract with Saints.Personally I would not re-sign him but what is the general opinion on him?

He puts in a lot of hard graft, does Flannery. Depending upon what other experience we have in our team next season it might be better to keep him on for another year.

I have always liked Flannery he does the unseen and often unrecognised work in our team and we do miss him when he doesn't play. We need to keep some experience in the side and he never lets us down.

Keep him. His stength is far greater than the trio of youngsters we have, and there's little chance of us picking up anyone else. He works hard and moves well off the ball. If he goes and we don't replace him, we're looking even more lightweight.

If it's true that he's not on the quota at all and his leaving wouldn't allow us to sign a top notch NRL player, then keep him.

He's much better than the garbage that comes through the academy.

I agree, if he's off quota and we not in for anyone else then we should keep him. He's a solid enough player.

Going off recent years at saints I expect us to allow him to leave to get his wage off the books and just use ashurst as his replacement.

Surprisingly, I agree with you, a very under rated player IMO.

He's a keeper for me, if we don't have any quota spaces that is.

Keep for me not had a bad season

Last year I would have booted him out, he offered very little for me and the young players looked like good prospects. However with the loss of Emmitt and the young players not moving forwards in the pack this year, and flannery looking much more comfortable in the 2nd row. He's a no brain keeper now.

For me he's not worth a quota spot. They should be for player like TP, Soliola, Perry etc, not your (slightly above) average grafting second rower. The fact we got rid of Glimour and got him is comical to me

According to people on here his departure wouldn't free up any overseas places anyway as we're at 5 overseas and Flannery only counts as non-fed trained or something?

Flannery did ok last year. He played pretty well when it was his turn to cover our other centre spot.

Can we just clarify getting rid of Flannery would not change anything in regards to bringing in another player.

Flannery is under the old quota system as is meli. The quota system no longer exsists except for those signed under it in years gone by.

The rules now are non-fed and federation trained.

You can have 5 non-fed players ( we already have 5 non-fed players for next year)

Quota players are exempt from this list, but you can't sign new quota players, just let the old ones be exempt from the new rules.

So we have Meli and Flannery. If we got rid of Flannery, we could only either replace from within Saints, from another UK player or from a quota player from another team and these are reducing fast. The only one I can think who maybe up for grabs would be Steve Menzies from Le catalan.

Personally I'd keep Flannery and sign menzies if we could as I just don't think Dixon, AShurst and Megennis have stepped up enough to turf out Flannery yet. I would not go so far as to say they will never make it, especially as Megenis has only had 1 year, but no point throwing out Flannery at the moment IMHO.

If we don't bring anyone in to replace him then we've got to keep him. Even as a squad player.
