| Is it time the live salary caps were published? I'd love to know how much we are spending towards the cap. Does anyone know if we're at or near the cap. I find it hard to believe we can be at the moment to be honest. Obviously they wouldn't name individuals, but just the total spent to date or something. With the various bonuses and clauses it would be impossible to work out any individual player details.
Wigan and Warrington in particular seem to make fantastic use of the same cap as we are under. Wigan have this season added Hock to their list and all the rugby league journalists on Twitter are now saying they've added Ben Cross to their squad for the rest of the season subject to him getting a new work permit. Another interesting point is that Wigan have 94 overseas players and look to be signing another. Maybe its time we got a mole into passport control as well?
I know Cross didn't get on well with Leeds, but if he recovered his NRL form he'd be a cracking signing and would add great depth to an already deep squad.

Why should they be published? It's sensitive, strategic business information.

| The salary cap audits have just been completed so maybe some clubs have to shed players and some still have a contingency fund.

I can imagine how thorough those are. Are there any documents around which detail the process? How far do they go? For example do they check the bank accounts and interests held by the players or is it just a case of tying up the payroll related outgoings on the club's bank statement to pay slips?

I agree with you they should be in the public domain and those with nothing to hide will publish them gladly.
As for wigan I would add that IL (owner) is a very shrewed business man who has personally made moves to also have this exposed to the public domain by way of submitting every financial offer accepted or refused for players that wigan has made to the NRL.
Any club that has offshore specialist accountants must be jumping through salary cap loop holes (Dire).
On the subject of Saints its simples your skint and all the clubs debts have been consilidated into a directors loan that will hopefully be repaid when the clubs new ground opens and starts to pay dividends of which im possitive that it will especially when its supported by your most hated but most competitive neighbours us pies filling it to capacity.

If you really want to know I can categorically state that Mrs FB frequently spends over my Salary Cap and has been doing so for the past 27 years.

I dont see under what jurisdiction the RFL could demand to see players' bank accounts and statements, or the accounts of sponsors/directors businesses to see what payments are being made by who to anyone else.
If Simon Moran's music empire wants to pay Joel Monaghan for his labrador to be in a music video, then how can the RFL control, record or stop that in any way. I can just see Nigel Wood rocking up at some music empire HQ demanding to see their bank statements.

So if they're not checking does it not mean the 'live' cap that's meant to eradicate cap rorting is just essentially a trust system? As you mention almost every SL club Director and owner will have multiple business interests, often a company they own and could easily rort the salary cap through. For example pay start player £100k through club and £100k through company, pay tax on the £100k through the company and no one at HMRC cares and no one at the RFL even knows about it?
