Anyone know much about him ? I've seen his name linked with us in a few threads now and thought he migh deserve one of his own



I assume he must be quite young, top SL clubs dont normally go looking for old timers in the lower divisions. I know if I ask Rogues I'll find out he is a life long Wigan fan but is he good enough for Saints?

No he's awful stay clear

People have posted things like - "the best talent outside SL" or indeed "better than a lot in SL".
Leythers reckon he's ignored approaches from SUper LEague clubs in the past to stay loyal to Leigh.

I guess it depends which SL club it is, obviously I dont know his reasons but as he would be seen as a development player and potentially a gamble I doubt he was offered big money. Like I said the club may have made difference , maybe he doesnt want to travel and it was a yorkie team or London/Crusaders ??

He's a hard driving, quick, ball handling prop who makes regualar clean breaks and has a good defence. Plays 80 minutes most games too.

Leigh fans won't be bitter if he does go to you, i'll wish him all the best anyway, he's in my opinion the best player Leigh have had since Micky Higham, maybe better.

Is this the Chris Hill that started at Saints?

Hes good enough for any SL side. Just becuse he plays in the Championship doesn't meen he doesn't have all the quality of a SL prop if you did sign him you would soon see he's good enough.

Not for a second doubting a players quality but I think it takes time for most players to make the step up, the speed and intesity is greater in SL so if we did get him we'd all need to be patient

Don’t think so, as far as I know he’s always been at Leigh, been playing regularly for the first team since he was 17, doing that in the front row even in the Championship is a tough ask. He’s very loyal, he refused to go to seeking trophies etc with the better club of St Pats as a kid to stay with his team mates at New Springs (I think it was), and although no Leigh fans would begrudge him the opportunity to play SL, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if he decided to stayed.

At his age if a team like Saints come knocking and he refuses he would be a fool imo, if it doesnt work out he will get a club back at Championship level and if it does work outhe'll be quids in so it's pretty much risk free.

I’m not saying this about Chris as I don’t know what he does, nor how much he gets paid (by Leigh or anyone else), but not everyone wants to be a full time RL player, have you ever thought that its possible for some players in the Championship, to earn more playing part time and having a ‘proper’ job the rest of the week, than being one of the poorer paid SL players?

He didn't start at Saints no, and glow has got it correct about his amateur teams too, there was a decent bunch of current SL and National League players came though that year at New Springs.

Put it this way, he looked a lot better than Emmitt when he was DR at Leigh last year and he's making waves at Cas now.

the other one to look out for (IMO of course) is Brendan Worth at Toulouse - he could be a really good prop with the right coaching and with better players around him - he's going nowhere at the moment with the di@@@ead he's working under at present.
He's really beefed up this season and has added to his overall game - Catalans were sniffing around in the close-season but Fakir decided to stay and Paea came in.

From what people have posted so far he sounds like a good signing for us as long as he wasnt brought in as a direct replacement for Jammer.

I know some players earn good money away from the game and maybe thats his reason for sticking at Leigh, will be interesting to see if we pursue it

What's important about props is that you have a good set.
Look what happened to our game when Graham and Tony were off the pitch against Wigan.
Wigan won the league with a modest yet determined set of 4 props.

Realistically, if we could start a game with Perry, LMS and Puletua on the pitch with Clough and another good superleague standard prop on the bench we'll be absolutely fine in any weather, especially with the way Soliola's supporting them.

Yeah , the trick will be keeping Perry fit it seems. Chris Hill sounds like he could be a gamble worth taking, if he's as good as the Leigh fans say and he makes the step up we could end up with a gem.. and he's not an Aussie !

he actually started off playing at st pats but dont know when till. played with him for the wigan town teams when younger but he was a year younger but played at our age group. he is a very good player!

Chris Hill would be a great addition to our pack from what I have seen of him. A real grafter and he has good ball handling skills as well for a Prop. It would be like a duck to water for Hill in Super League and I think he would be a fine signing. McManus take note!!!

If anyone's interested to see how good he is it might be worth a few Saints fans going to watch him next friday against a form Super League team in Catalans. I know i'm intrigued to see how he does.

Thing is what people forget about Chris Hill, is that he used to play centre and back row, hes a very agile forward. Also he played super league at 17 in a struggling Leigh side. The guys no replacement for Graham but would be a good signing for you guys, but would he come to you on a 1 year / 2 year contract, time will tell?
