What about copying the Aussies (again) and next year, making the Easter weekend round of derby matches a heritage round?

Teams can use that weekend to celebrate their history, any landmark events, invite a host of past players to the game and take to the field in a one off "heritage" shirt that is of a design that reflects an important time in the clubs history. For Saints, it could be the original blue/white stiped shirt that we had for our centenary or more recently, the Meninga shirt for example.

The club could raise some income by having another shirt to sell, and it could be changed each year to represent a different era.

The club could even have a competition and ask the fans to design the shirt. How good would that be with some of the designs posted on here?

It would obviously need the buy in from all the clubs but could be another way of us raising the profile of the game.

Thought it went down really well last weekend, even though I was a little slow on the uptake. Perhaps Wigan could wear the strip they wore when they were in the second division? Harlequins could wear that awesome Fulham strip from Fulham's inaugural year.

I think a heritage weekend here would go down better here than Australia, we just seem to appreciate the heritage more with the love for old grounds and retro shirts etc...

Too much in RL up here do people try to ignore our heritage and people often get slated for being proud of past glories. Down under it's gone down great and here it could provide a great spectacle too. Can't see it being that hard to incorporate either.

Also it's harder to honour your heritage with 14 teams there in a half empty giant stadium then with a two in a full (mostly at least) one.

One of my big regrets is that I never got to see a game of RL played at the SCG. I did the ground tour when I was over there and always thought it would be great place to watch a big RL game.

No, you're expanding upon the Magic Weekend.

You are creating a festival of Rugby League Heritage, as well as of the sport.

The Magic Weekend if it stays in Cardiff is going to grow (particularly if it moves back to May).

I thought about MM weekend but the point for me would be to have another weekend where we can push a big media campaign.

Can you imagine a saints and Wigan team led out at DW or saints new stadium by Boston and Vol in a set of heritage shirts reflecting their respective eras?

I just feel having two events is better than one? Down under they have a few including women in RL round.

If you feel magic will grow then leave it and try to create s heritage round that may put a few hundred on gates another week?

Personally I think we should scrap the magic weekend as a club round. If we are serious about Rugby League we should have an International RL weekend (maybe at Cardiff/Murrayfiled/Newcastle etc)

Play Army v Airforce/Navy, Wales v Ireland/Scotland, England U20 v Overseas XIII or France and then the England v Exiles.

As Maurice Lindsay said last night in his interview, the International game needs to be elevated to the top for RL to get the kind of coverage it deserves. Sadly we have too many "supporters" who don't want to support the International game.

I like the idea of a fan designed shirt (although I don't know how practical that would be), and I like the idea of a "legend" leading the teams out.

Great news, Its been reported on the Irish Gobblygook forum that number 10 are going to announce that Rogues (Who has been Chief Interferance Officer on RLFANS Forum for the last 100 years) is to be offered a new post in the Government by Cleggy and Campbell and will have the Title of "The Minister for Interferance and Rumouroligy"
I think we all agree that this is a well deserved accolade and may I be the first to congratulate him.
