No. Timed just right I think. Three years is a good length of time in which to find out what the guy is really made of.

Only if we want to lose another player. 3 years good deal for all.

If after 2 he can't make the grade then it's a possible transfer or 1 year being replaced.
It's good for Gaskell as it shows confidence in his game and gives him time to bed in.

Also good as if he has 3 good years Saints will be willing to up the price in 3 years time, maybe for a 4 year deal.

There is no mention of pay and it's a 3 year deal, so I doubt it's going to be the same salary each year. I would expect some kinda scale.
eg

£15k - current year
£20k - year 1
£30k - year 2
£40k - year 3

etc

So no need for it to impact the current SL seasons bill.
