First of all congrats for reaching the GF. As a closet saints fan since boyhood I well remember Eddie Cunningham the Uncle of Keiron playing for Saints. But, I never hear him mentioned or written about when commentators wax lyrical about his nephew. Can anyone enlighten me on his present association with the club and what older Saints fans thought of him (as a player). Thanks in advance.

There was, but he was Kieron's brother, not uncle. He was a little before my time, and I don't think he has any official connection with the club currently.

As above, Eddie is Keiron's elder brother.

He actually holds something over KC as he won the Lance Todd trophy in 1982 playing for Hull, an achievement which has eluded his more decorated younger brother! Cunningham has said in the past this is something Eddie takes great pleasure in reminding him of.

Easy mistake to make as Eddie is considerably older than Keiron.

Did you see him the other week playing in the Saints - Leeds final on BBC 4? He had a great game.

eddie was in the building trade then had a few pubs as mentioned.the last i heard he was a joint owner of the duke of cambridge on duke street.

As a player, I remember him as having loads of talent, but as with many players of his semi professional generation, probabaly never fulfilled his potential. Not sure if this was down to his commitments outside the game, love of the odd pint or two, or what, but still have fond memories of watching him play. Would put him in the "talented character" pigeon hole along with John Walsh.

He was a great player of his day, he would have done well in the modern era as a full time pro.

I used to bump into Eddie quite a lot in the building trade after his playing days were over.

I do recall him telling me that he'd had to have a lot of surgery because of injuries he had received while playing for GB down under, he said he was held together with nuts and bolts like Barry Sheene.

He complained that in those days GB didn't carry much insurance on the players and he was aggrieved at the lack of help he had got.

I often wonder if this influenced Kieron's attitude to playing for GB.

Saw Eddie make his debut for Wigan as a 17yr old great player and did well at Wigan.

Great, made my day. I remember him as a class player good to hear others do too.
