I like Tony Smith's appraisal of him: "He's a championship player".
To be honest I thought he'd long retired, and I had no idea he had caps for Ireland RU. I always liked him though, hope he goes ok.

Why exactly????... 
We have a gap in the squad, left by Penny's loan to Widnes and Gleeson's departure....we fill it with a proven winger, which arguably we don't have at present.
If it goes well, then great, if not, we bin him at season's end....win-win situation, I reckon.
People seem to be assuming he is going to suddenly become our first choice winger....in reality, he is simply good experienced cover for when it gets to the serious part of the season. |

A calculated gamble.
Hes had less miles on the clock because he game to the game late and played very little first team for the last season.
What thats says for penny`s career though cant see him back unless BC is total crap

We need a winger.
I thought auld carney had retired, didnt even realise he was playing yawnion. Can he re capture his form of 6 years ago... ? Can his legs hold up ? I would say its a risk worth taking, this season is a fun one for wire, they were in free fall and alogn came Tony, put a bit of self belief into the side, took the pressue of the team by showing the cameras he is a "laid back" Tony Smith who smiles and laughs about good and bad things that occur on the field, so why not give auld brian a go...if it fails so what tony will laug it off.
