| So it sounds like a money move, big risk by Sav in that Agar could decoach him inside 6 weeks. Like LFC Saint has mentioned Knowles and Davies to step up, don,t know what kind of reception the Saints fans will give Sav if he gets picked on Sunday, bit of a Judas feel to it if confirmed by the club.

I posted few weeks back that hes been in talks with Warrington. Big loss.

| Quote ="Rogues Gallery"BUT, if you were "head hunted" by another company and offered a far better salary, with fringe benefits (car, pension etc) the surely you would consider it. As I've said previously Saints will have a max value for Savelio. If another club want to pay more than that then Saints have a big decision to make. Personally I would stick to my guns and let him go, because it will cause further problems down the line when the next young stars come knocking at the chairmans door asking for salaries that the club don't think are justified.
Savelio is a very good prospect, but that's all he is at the moment. What happens if he doesn't fulfill that potential and you finish up paying him way above market rate for four or five years?'"
Completely agree. Player movement is a market. If he goes he goes, we move on. There are other players who I'd be more worried about losing.

How is he a big loss? He's a prospect, no more. People are getting carried away with this I think.

It's a big loss as he's a first team member that we have very very high hopes of. We now have to replace Sav with someone who won't be on the low money Sav is on so I doubt we will get better in.
I think he's going to be a real top player and so do saints.

He may be, he may not be but I have heard that so so many times. Bracek, Stankevitch, Jonkers, Dixon, Ashurst, Wheeler, Walker - all the next big thing and all of whom have left (or stayed) and done....squat.
I just don't think you can mortgage your future on a 'maybe'. For every two Savelios I'd take one Vea.
I'm not upset if he goes, especially to Wire. They have form in turning prospects into also rans and fodder for Championship outfits.

| If Philbin was at Saints he'd be behind Walker and Hand for a place in the team. Poor player.
Savelio is gutting but i'd be even more gutted if he developed for 2 more years at Saints then decided go to the NRL cut our losses now.
Olly Davies is a great player. England u18 player who runs his blood to water.
Amor
Roby
Walmsley
Greenwood
Vea
Wilkin
Tasi / Haggarty
Thompson / Richards
Lomax
? Another signing
That is a decent pack still and we will have more options in the backs. I believe Quinlan will be signed for next year aswell if all goes well with Mcdonnell dropping to the back up winger we have been searching for.
Quinlan
Mcdonnell / Swift
Turner
Percival
Makinson
Burns
Walsh
Lomax to provide cover for Hooker and Full back untill 100 percent.

I've never championed any of them players you named and I never get carried away with young prospects but Sav is different class, he's going to be a top top player and will go to NRL and be a big name in world rugby.
I did champion Eastmond by the way and I believe Eastmond and Sav are the most exciting youngsters we have produced in last 10 years easy.

I rank Percival ahead of Savelio in our current batch, but that may because he plays a position we as a country have a chronic lack of ...
There are plenty of players who have been championed by fans who turned into a bust, and plenty who came right of left field (I will never forget a post on another forum bemoaning why the club would continue to persist with Roby (who was too small) and Graham who was never going to make it).
Savelio has the potential to do everything you say yes, but there are plenty of traps along the way where he could fall into "could of been" category... The off field matters can knock him off course, particularly so given his ongoing matters with his condition.
But since we're talking about failing potential can we add Frodsham and Clough to the list? Frodsham in particular was the best thing since sliced bread!

| Pointless signing anyone due to all the things that could go wrong, why get out of bed in the morning? Some players grow admittedly but I genuinely think you can tell instantly when a player will be class. I remember watching scullys debut at Warrington and knowing the first time he took the ball up that he would be absolute class...same with Harris. Not putting savelio in scullys bracket but the boy clearly has something above most at his age.

| Look, if the guy wants to swap a seat at the top table of British RL for the cavernous pit of mediocrity that is our Cheshire neighbours then let him get on with it. More fool him and his mother in this instance. The lad's a talent but let's see how much of a talent he is in another 18 months stuck at that place. He'll probably end up playing half under the shambolic management that is Warrington.
Saints will move on and continue to win. Warrington don't know where their next championship is coming from. If the guy wants to forfeit what's good for his development in place of the cheap dollar, then on yer bike pal. Enjoy the RL wilderness.

You and your faux outrage doesn't wash with me.
That one championship is more than Warrington have had in over fifty years of RL. If you're that d about Sav going, go follow Warrington and pray for a league championship. You can join the 3/4 generations of Warrington supporters that have been doing so for umpteen years.
Going to the NRL or Wigan and Leeds, I can get. Joining Warrington......completely nonsensical. Chasing the money. He'd have been as well signing for Salford; probably got paid more as well.

| 4 trophies in 5 years or one trophy in 7 (thanks to Ben Flower). Savelio knows the score. He knows the future is positive with Wire. The Golden Gates tatoo isn't so bad if you compare it to the zenith of potential St Helen's tattoos- the Asda entrance framework, the circular concrete ascent to the concrete carpark leading to f all. A tattoo of the new Tesco carpark. A tattoo of Aldi.

Putting rivalry to one side, you've got to respect Warrington as a club. They are a big club with a decent history. They've won a few challenge cups in last few years and been close to winning a grand final. That's my problem with a player of Savelio's obvious potential, going to a club like that. They're a dangerous team and Savelio will strengthen them even more.
Before we won league in 96, we hadn't won league or (Challenge) cup since the 70's. Signing Newlove was a statement and I believe he was the catalyst for the start of our SL success.
We need a mouthwatering signing for next season now to show our intent for success.

| Scott Gibbs as well, was a great signing in the centres. I can't remember whether they played at the same time, but they played in a similar era. Newlove was a fantastic player. Big and fast with a step, signed from Featherstone as I can recall. Saints were always able to sign some big players. Wire were similar at that time with Bateman, Ellis and Rowland Philips from the welsh RU squad, but you seemed to push on more mid 90s into the start of the sl era.

No way frodsham or Clough was going to be anything more than average players at best. People was ranting clough was the next jammer lol
I got bagged on here when I said our "golden generation" as they was being called of the likes of lomax, tyrer, foster, ashurst, Dixon etc would be playing in the lower leagues or salford and I was right (I got the Lomax one wrong).
I'm not the sort to be carried away when young players break thru and I believe I have a eye for talent and I knew Eastmond, percy and Sav will be top players or even workdclass.
The is no way around it that sav will be a loss for now and a massive loss when he matures into the player HE will become.

| Can,t say I,m overly dissapointed with Sav going elsewhere as he,s still 1 or 2 seasons away from reaching his potentional, for his career I would have thought it would have been better for his development to go to the NRL where the coaching set up is more professional. As for Wire I,m not sure if they can accelarate his potential under Smith and Agar, also Sav has lost that safety net from experienced players around him.
Wish him all the best but as as already mentioned not devastated with his decision, now if it was Walmsley, Percival or Greenwood that would be a different matter.

Your modesty holds no bounds, eh ?
Nobody ever in my experience hailed Clough as anywhere near Graham. Equally, Gaz Frodsham was incredibly highly rated, both within the club and the game. As with all kids, the ultimate test is at first team level; some sink, some swim and on many occasions, it's the ones you expect to sink that swim fastest and furthest. All youth sports coaches know and acknowledge that it is never an exact science.
Implying that you have some kind of ability in talent spotting by telling us you rated Eastmond, Percival and Savelio is akin to telling us you're great with colours because you reckon the sky's blue. All of three of those have been rated enormously for much of their youth; all three had major competition for their signature and have been spoken of throughout their development.
I don't recall this 'golden generation' you speak of. Ashurst, Dixon, Tyrer etc were all considered hard working lads that could have a career. The real starlets were considered Eastmond and Magennis.
So, please, quit putting yourself on some pedestal when you'd be as well telling us what religion the Pope represents.

You wouldn't recall it as you only joined here last year so pretty poor post their mate. People on here was posting that we don't need to replace Lyon as we got Tyrer, we don't need to replace joynt as we have ashurst etc
We played Cas home and played about 8 kids and we hammerd them and then the usual posters was banging on about the "golden generation" but you wouldn't know as only joined last year so get back in your box.
