I think thats harsh without seeing him perform at centre at a high level.
for example he scored a hatrick last week playing in the centres for Rochdale.
Makinson possesses pace, and that worries any defender.
I would like to see Saints try him there against the likes of Wakefield to see how it turns out.
Better to try and fail than never to have tried at all.

Pace does worry defenders but IMO hes not that fast. Don't forget mate I've actually trained and run with tommy. He's fast but not super fast.
Does he have a step ? No
Does he have good footwork ? No
Can he knock players off ? No
I like tommy but IMO he's a winger.

I know he isnt super fast. However he would be a touch quicker than most centres out there which i think could help stretch opposition backlines, as he should be able to get on the outside of the defending centres.
This is all hypothetical though and the only way of truly finding out either way is by playing him there and seeing how he shapes up.

I think we need a different option instead of Jones. Hasn't really impressed me, he just seems to be another solid player.

I have a clear memory of him turning Sam Tomkins inside out during the playoffs at the DW in 2011. I also remember him haring down the pitch at LP to score an almost full lengther against Salford I think it was. He's fast enough for my liking and certainly a ton faster than Gardner or Meli.

He's not super fast, if we are picking centres on speed then Percival and Turner would start.
Makinson is a steady winger and nothing more.

Swift seems faster more elusive can step off both feet, strange how Makinson has stagnated similar to Foster.

Yup, seems I was wrong on this one, he's great
No, as ever I'm right.
He's awful defensively. About 50 seconds it took Wakefield to carve an enormous, gaping hole in our defense down Turner's flank. He's a complete liability defensively and we seemed to change his position every five minutes tonight, no doubt to try and confuse Wakefield so they couldn't exploit it. He played left centre, left wing, right centre and stand off/loose forward tonight. Average with the ball in all positions and defensively woeful. I really don't see it with Turner. If it has to be in the side, it has to be on the wing where he can do the least damage and we can occasionally exploit his pace, if he has any, as we've not seen him have a gallop as yet.

He did a couple of poor reads defensively but otherwise had a strong game. Its hard to keep defensive structure if your being asked , (due to injury)to play in all those different positions . He must have been knackered by the end of the game due to putting in a big shift, both in attack and defence.
I thought him and Meli were devastating in attack together, he was giving Meli good ball in acres of space to work with. Hence why Turner scored two tries.

I'm not knocking his effort, he tries. His two tries came from putting his hand on a ball the Wakefield defender spilled and from a sensational pass from Meli. Stick him on the wing.

| Shabby defence a couple of times but i thought he was excellent with the ball. Some lovely fast passes to Meli and looks devastating with the ball near the line. His defence could cause us problems in the big games but his attack as definately added to our squad.

| His defense was not that bad. He got burned on the first try, but was solid after that. Has some nice hand and footwork going forwards.

Was it Collis that did him? If so, no real disgrace, as he's a very dangerous centre.

Thats how I saw it, he improved defensively as the game wore on. Perhaps we should give him some slack he isn,t the finished article yet, hopefully Brown will reduce any defensive liability he has at present.

I agree, after that first one I think he was solid defensively.
His attack was great.

| Turner's problem is that he has a habit of misreading plays, so ends up grabbing at shirts as a last resort.
In attack he is brilliant, and he will benefit from the likes of Manu, Meli and Wilkin around him down that side.

Indeed, said as much myself. I'm not convinced Turner is worthy of my attention to be honest. If they can improve his awful defending he will just be massively average. I'm not convinced he's worth the effort.

| I think Turner has been ok this year and find it laughable with the stick hes been getting on here. He's been ok, nothing special tho.
However, I thought he had a shocker in defence against Wakefield. He must a few and looked all at sea at times.
I just hope it was a one off.

| Turner as read a number of plays brilliantly against Wire and against Wakefield. Not enough numbers on his side so hes shot out the line and made the tackle.

| Think Turner has looked decent enough with the ball in hand to suggest he can do a job for us. Certainly he has a step, is nimble and fast for a sizeable fellow. Not convinced on his defence yet.

TBF, he was never really a poor tackler for us. It was more about his positioning and decision making him miss, not really falling off tackles. The Collis try was typical of Turner at Hull; wandering into no man's land whilst ball watching then flailing his arms at his opposite number as they cruise past.
