| Quote ="Blobbynator"Whilst these are all valid points, the lack of half backs wasn't really the reason for our defeat last night.
We completely got owned up the middle, the lack of commitment was alamring as was our attitude, and this has happened this season when Jonny Lomax, Jon Wilkin & Luke Walsh have been in the team.
That is the more worrying aspect than simply lacking in creativity.
I can't recall a collective unit of Saints players making so many basic errors with ball in hand, poor defensive reads and generally playing so dumb. It was horrendous to watch from start to finish.'"
Fully agree, I can accept the defeat with the missing players or when the opposition is the better team but not this lack of commitment or attitude to the red vee shirt.
Saddened and myself last season and early this season and probably some older fans where saying this current team is an Alien one and very un saints like, Potter and Simmons lost the heartbeat of the club and Brown has to retort with laid back excuses.
This current Jeckyll and Hyde team is baffling, mentally very weak and not willing to physically adjust when the going gets tough.

| I would be tempted to throw some young forwards back into the team. I can understand when Manu, Amor and others came back the young lads slipped down the pecking order. It's natural. But the young lads whilst not amazing going forwards, would have not been suckered in so many times like last night.
But who do you drop???
Everyone will have their favourite. LMS who has hit form. Mose who can be a wrecking ball when he's not a pudding. Amor possibly our best prop. Walmsley who makes great average gains.
For me I would drop Laffranchi. He does not seem to have added to the squad since coming back. I thought he would add some steal to the defense but actually it could be anyone there. I would also be tempted to drop one of Manu or Sia. Again both very good, but something seems not to be right.
I would not chop and change too much so maybe 2 forwards and let the backs try and recover some of their embarrassment. But doing nothing would indicate that it is acceptable if you are a big name to underperform and that is one thing we need to learn from Wigan. It's the performance not the name that matters when it comes to the big games.

You may have noticed that the one signing who improved us isn't playing. Brown has had two seasons with the rest of them but they still don't look any better than they did last season. And that includes the games where we have been atrocious in spite of Walsh playing.

Who do we drop you ask. Well based on form, any of the forwards could be dropped. The last two weeks they have been fisted.
I wouldn't pick laffranchi again. He's not earned a spot, he offers nothing and he's not here next year.

Yes that was my badly hidden agenda; but I still stick to my opinion; Wheeler should have played.
Hi Ho was awful last season and part of this and impressed no one, but we gave him other (several) chances.
This "new" system that NB has put in place seems to be play with one HB and hope the forwards will blast their way through. Pure genius.

But we knew before a ball was kicked this season that Lance wasn't a SL-class halfback, Wheeler was made of biscuit, and Lomax was one-dimensional at halfback. Regardless of injuries, we were going into the season ill-prepared.
Why no back-up? We've allegedly had room within the Cap all season. But even discounting bringing someone in, why isn't Brown grooming a halfback from the Academy? Why did Charnock (who can actually kick in open play) make his debut two seasons ago and hasn't had a sniff since, despite many who watch the Academy telling me he could do a job? Why persist in playing non-half backs from the first team squad at halfback, when they aren't up to it?

It wasn't the injuries that dropped the ball and missed tackles.

I really disagree with the comment about Lance. Granted, he's much more effective alongside a quality scrum half, but Lance is a quality player who gets slated on here. Only last week he was the match winner against Leeds.

I hesitated in responding to your post, but, the only two "low class fans" on here appear to be you and Barry, re read this thread you will see lots of understanding of your situation, a lack of halves, an injury pile up, still top of the league etc from Wire posters and you've hardly been inundated with idiots.
As a club we've obviously had plenty of pain from Saints, so of course it's a big win for us, a total reverse of the larruping you gave us at our place earlier this season. It does happen in sport and it's how you take it on from here that will define your season. If we get you in the play offs I wouldn't be too cock sure who will win but rather perversely a game at LP rather than HJ might just suit us and that is what makes sport compelling.
Have a think Loz, it's not so bad after all

Its a bit baffling with Charnock in that he hasn't been selected for a few games this season, we,ve been told he's not ready then he starts to play loose forward then he starts to play hooker.
We,ve had loads of young players recurited at the club as half backs but none develop into that position, its time to develop this particular area before that position dries up completely in the english game.
Some developement into other pivotal position(Roby, Cunningham) have worked but we do have a lot of wastage.
From memory: Cunningham, Roby, Ellis, Wheeler, Moore, Jones, Lomax, Swift, Charnock and others came to the club as potential halves, only Wheeler has managed to keep half back position, when he plays of course.

The whole country has halfback problems. Nobody seems to be bringing and scrumhalfs thru. I've watched Charnock god knows how many times and I don't think he's anywhere near ready and IMO he's never going to be ready.

Spot on, this. Seems to me as though modern back lines are coached by the wrong people these days. In the past, it'd be the halves that orchestrated the attacks, now it seems to be pre-planned by those off the pitch. It now has an air of practice, practice, practice and fock trying anything new.

I think this has come from more the change of defences, because they're much more structured now. It's hard to break down a structured defence with off the cuff play which is why more structured attacks (Wigan, Cas, Leeds, for example) tend to be more successful.
For me, Warrington are one of the few who deliberately play without much structure in attack. When it works for them they usually score highly but it can often result in them falling flat on their face as the defences can shut it down.

How come you were all booing and singing "4 points to the referee" after our first try? I didn't see anything wrong with it?

I think it was due to the penalty given against LMS for leaning round at the play of the ball. IMO it was an incorrect call, I didn't see much wrong with what he did.

A few things. The penalty Monaghan got where he feigned injury was the softest penalty ever. Then the ref gave the 'offside' call against a player with two feet behind his own try line LMS reached in, but the ball was played far too far forward by Warrington, meaning the Saints players could reach it from behind the line. Surely to god, as soon as it's touched by the Wire dummy half, they can do what they like?
It had no bearing on the outcome at all, but the refereeing was appalling throughout. Farcical calls, farcical control of the game. It got to the point where the touch judges were overulling him all the time.

We were saying the same thing that LMS had his feet behind the try line and was using the post to reach over to the play the ball that was too close to the defensive line.
Monaghan made it open season for Jones to make an impact tackle, I think it was a "lucky dip" by the officials that Monaghan needed protection.
How Child got the highest performance score over the games this weekend I dont know.

Because he got the game in which Saints were beaten, which is all it takes this season, given that Cas are on our shoulder and that's the team everyone wants to win the LLS.
