Quite a few of you picking Wheeler; has he been performing well in the reserves?

Either everyone is in the know from one poster on here or most people have heard a rumour that will mean Wheeler may play but not at halfback.

Gale's out with an ankle injury, was expected back start of the season but had a recurrence so its delayed his comeback until the Widnes game in 2 weeks, unless thats a cover for him leaving. He did sign a 3 year deal in the off season.

Chev Walker is fit to play, Scruton not banned. and they've both been a revelation in our friendlies & matches this season so far. Gale, Bateman & Purtell are all 2-3weeks away from being available.

Our team is likely to be almost the same as Saturday night's win over Castleford. Langley may not be fit as he is carrying a slight injury.

I'd prefer to keep lomax and Gaskell in the halves, they need time to gel again, and have makinson at 1 and recall Ade for the wing, some experience there wouldn't kill us

Brown says what we all know about Wheeler:

"He has been training well. He contributed well for Rochdale in Sunday's match against Oldham and is training well. He is always a player that will be in contention for the first team.

"If he plays consistently then people are aware of what a talent he is. He is adaptable and can play in a number of positions as he has awareness of the game and speed too. But he needs luck with injury."

I've always seen a ridiculous amount of potential in Wheeler and it is genuinely upsetting that he can't stay fit. The fact that Brown mentions elsewhere that he had a couple of "mishaps" in pre-season perhaps confirms that 2013 is unlikely to be any different for him with injuries. Such a shame.

I agree. Its got to the stage where many of us have simply given up hope of seeing him ever play more than a couple of games in a row.

Personally I'd go a bit experimental and try something like:

We're at the point of the season where we should probably be experimenting a bit with the number of young players we have anyway and I still hold out a small amount of hope that Wheeler could make a fantastic #6 yet. Let's have one last attempt at making a player out of him and if he breaks down again then we can all just finally give up all hope and move on. I might be tempted to have Jones on the bench instead of Greenwood though while waiting for his inevitable injury...

Wheeler's a possibility at full back?

Chev Walker and Jamie Langley have been named in the squad and coach Francis Cummins expects them to be passed fit to play, meaning the Bulls could be unchanged.

I think I'll just wait and see who pops up on Saturday.

No faith in the Lomax / Gaskell partnership then?

Doesn't look like it does it three games in and there spilt up should of been given a least 10 games together

It looks like the only coach who did have faith in that partnership was Simmons. I guess that kind of faith gets you fired!

True look what happened when he did we got with 20 mins of winning the comp no wonder gaskell got no confindence he is scared of doing anything wrong incase he get dropped

No chance, jonny lomax has been overrated by saints fans as usual. He had a good first season and has been rubbish ever since.

if this is true and pete is pretty good with these things. then you have to assume the lack of patience to see reults is impacted by the change in the transfer window. the fact you can approach players come april time must mean brown needs to know what he has from everyone. does he need one or two halfbacks.

i would have prefered lomax and gaskell to get six games to get up to speed. but that would leave little time before needing to make offers to players for next year.

should be an interesting game at bradford today.
