They have a much, much stronger squad and have been better managed than we have. A lot of people worship the board at Saints, but whilst they have done a good job off the field, the squad development has plummeted. We haven't recruited nearly as well as we could have done and we have weaknesses in almost every area, with no senior professionals as back up at all, only sparrow legged kids. Leeds could rest all 13 of their starting players and would still beat the majority of the sides in Super League.
You might win the Premiership with kids, but not Super League.

That is because the Majority of the reserve team are around 18 years old. Although when they played against the likes of Salford and Wakey in pre season they were just as good and the said 2 had strong teams playing. What Leeds do have though are about 8 or 9 players who can step into an injured position without really taking much away from the team. We did miss Kirke and Lauitiiti against you though for go forward.
Im on St Tys side here though. Nothing wrong with banter but its gets too excessive someimes and well, just plain boring. I dont want to look at a 40 page thread on SS about Bailey or come on here and read similar. Banter is good, spouting sh[ii[/ite is not.

| Quote ="ST_CONROY"I know full well what the insinuation was. It was that the younger members haven't been around for the days when we were poor, are all glory hunters and are all arrogant and expect us to win?
Otherwise what "generation thing" are you refering to. Be more specific?'"
Ok specifically, and not wanting to sound like a Daily Mail reader, I meant about a proportion of the current generation (obviously not all) of young people who seem to have a general lack of respect for other people in society. Now it may just be me, but i was brought up to respect other people, their opinions and considerations even though, like yourself, i don't always agree with them. I try hard not to jump on the bandwagon and generally take time to formulate a decent response to posts, even if i don't always succeed.
In terms of posting on the boards I was particularly talking about the lack of respect shown by some people (including our own) to opposition teams and their fans, as has been the case this week with Leeds. They are without doubt a quality side that have been very much our equals in recent years and who undoubtably contributed to a great game of rugby last friday. There are clearly some people from both camps who will readily admit when they have been beaten by the better side, but sadly there is a very vocal number who choose to not to talk about how great a game it was or how well it was played but instead argue the toss over whether Ryan Bailey is a thug or not in at least 4 threads. I'm not suggesting we have a love-in or anything but 4 bloody threads about how hard Bailey/Graham/Maurie are?
Another example is the way, as soon as an opposition fan posts a reply on a thread here on the-entertainers - even if it is a sensible non-trolling post - they are automatically met with lazy, childish reponses like 'better than your team' or 'go back to your own board'. A prime example is Rogues, whilst a wind-up merchant at times he does have some informed views on the game and yet even these are almost immediately met with standard/carbon copy derisory anti-wigan comments simply because he's posting from over the lump and is seen by some to be 'invading' our board.
Similarly as you have stated, you are often met with derisory comments upon posting yourself. Now whilst you admit you don't care what people think of you it surely must pi$$ you off!? I don't wish to speculate on why you receive this treatment but I again put alot of it down the people jumping on the bandwagon of derision, again something i try to avoid doing in your case specifically. I've seen it happen to Saints fans on the Leeds board alot lately too.
Quote Banter is banter'"
I was always of the opinion that banter was meant to be good humoured. Maybe its just me reading things wrong?
Quote If there is abuse then you as a moderator should remove it assuming it is against the AUP. The boards would soon clean up if you banned people/deleted threads/edited posts' that were as such. '"
Perhaps my initial use of the word abuse to distinguish between what i consider to be banter and what's not was incorrect but regardless of my poor choice of words unfortunately many of these derisory comments don't breach the AUP or at least my interpretation of it. That is what sometimes makes this mod lark difficult. We do try to have a relatively open board and have relatively few people banned. We don't want to be in a position where the whole board has to be regulary sterilised, lest it become like a morgue.
Quote I'm sure i can find plently of older members who get involved in the petty arguments.'"
I'm also sure you could find plenty of older members who would get involved, I never suggested they wouldn't. I can understand why anyone would get involved tbh not least because by the sheer number of them it is hard not to get involved. What prompted my post is that when i first started coming on these boards i don't recall it being as bad as it is currently.
Quote I couldn't give a toss whether i am liked or not. I have friends of my own, i don't need to make virtual friends.'"
Me too chief. I don't just come on here to Mod, but do login because I like to keep up with what's going on in the RL community, i like the discussions about the game and yes i like the banter too. Personally I prefer to read rather than post often (mainly because i clearly have a tendency to witter on) hence my relatively low post count, but following on from Ski's OP just wanted to add that i'm finding it increasingly frustrating reading the same mind numbing arguements and trolling attemps.
Whilst i didn't intend to have to defend my original post the very fact it has led to such a detailed discussion with yourself finds me both pleased for the chance to debate my points further and yet disappoints me that some of the equally though-out posts i've made about the game of Rugby League itself haven't garnered a similar level of response of late.

Both Saints and Leeds are (and have been for a few seasons) using the academy sides as they are intended - as feeders to the first team. The best way to judge how good the youth set up in overall isn't the league positions in the reserves competition but how well these players make the step up and become regular first team players.

Possibly, whether that is actually true or not i don't know. To me it is possibly just a case of the "bad" examples/cases of younger people are in the media or always talked about more than actually a larger proportion. With the increased media avenues it is just easier to find out about the bad examples. 99.9% of younger people do have respect and a fine but as with most things the 0.1% gets the attention.
Quote ="St Ty"In terms of posting on the boards I was particularly talking about the lack of respect shown by some people (including our own) to opposition teams and their fans, as has been the case this week with Leeds. '"
Obviously with it being an internet forum it is difficult to gauge what is an attempt to be funny and what is actually being disrespectful. I do agree that some posts are bordering on a lack of respect.
Quote ="St Ty"but sadly there is a very vocal number who choose to not to talk about how great a game it was or how well it was played but instead argue the toss over whether Ryan Bailey is a thug or not in at least 4 threads. I agree, this week specifically has been ridiculous regarding the Bailey and Maurie threads. Some people, including myself, have tried to discuss the actual issues invloving tackles but it just goes downhill.
Quote ="St Ty"Similarly as you have stated, you are often met with derisory comments upon posting yourself. Now whilst you admit you don't care what people think of you it surely must pi$$ you off!? '"
It depends to be honest. If i have made a valid point it does get slightly annoying but at the end of the day if people don't like me or what i post then that is upto them. I'm not going to stop posting.
Quote ="St Ty"I don't wish to speculate on why you receive this treatment but I again put alot of it down the people jumping on the bandwagon of derision, again something i try to avoid doing in your case specifically. I've seen it happen to Saints fans on the Leeds board alot lately too.'"
I'd probably agree with that also. I think not just in relation to me but in relation to all posts people can just jump on a bandwaggon. Looking at the Bailey tackle, i'm sure some people have thought it wasn't that bad but have seen that people are upset/annoyed about it and just jumped on the Bailey is a dirty so-and-so bandwaggon.
Quote ="St Ty"Me too chief. I'd totally agree with you. I often just read the forums (both here and Redvee) and often even make a response and don't post it.

Again i'd agree. Often some very good issues get embroiled in the arguments and go missing.
In relation to the arguments and derisory comments i think it is a case of people reacting. They are obviously posted to get a reaction and the issue comes when people respond. If people just ignored them and didn't bite then they would fall away and people would get bored of posting them.

Nope, its possibly got something to do with the consistent personal insults they throw around though. How on earth most of them are allowed to get away with the stuff they do on that forum is beyond contemplation.
Plus in general, Leeds folk just tend to be 'not to my taste'.
