I was Reading interview with potter other day, he was saying that he would have liked longy to stay.

He also said a lot of saints players have steeped contracts meaning that players wages rise each year.

He went on to say that from outside we don't seem to be signing players or giving players new deals but current players wages still going up.

if that is the case, then his hands are tied!!!

I wasn't into RL 8 years ago, thus I have no idea what Leeds, or indeed Saints were doing around that time.

But that doesn't mean he should try and make Saints play in the way Catalans did. Catalans are a bunch of big blokes, the culture is different and the skill sets are different. Saints have always played flowing, open attacking rugby league and an awful lot of Saints fans are missing that because that is the reason we watch them. Potter has undoubtedly snuffed us out so far as our attack is concerned. Not only did that render us useless on Saturday night after Meli's almighty balls ups but it also means week after week we are enduring the most boring rugby most fans can remember Saints playing and why should fans endure that when even a year ago we knew how to pass a ball out wide and score a try?

I get the impression people at Catalans thought the world of Potter. Fair enough. But just because a coach does well with one team it cannot be assumed that he will do equally well with another.

So far as the OP is concerned and Slick Mick speaking in the third person about Saints, he has done that consistently and it sends a clear signal to many fans that he really doesn't want to be here. For many, the feeling is mutual.

Have you not thought that perhaps the lack of pace/leg/energy after aging players have worked hard all season has forced saints up the middle in the latter stages of the season? I saw no complaints when you knocked Leeds out of the Challenge Cup



That cannot be assumed, but to come into a team that was not his, stamp his mark on it, and get a team to 3rd in the league shows a talent for coaching, be it at Saints, Catalans, Wigan or Leeds

I wouldn't blame him for not wanting to be at Saints, for starters the fans haven't given him a chance to stamp his mark on the team! what a merry bunch you all are, you can't even get behind your team in a Grand Final Semi-Final. Even the Wigan away fans outsung you.

We were still playing Anderson's rugby back then. We were wonderful in that match.


And there you have it. Potter has now stamped his mark upon the team. And we have the most boring Saints side in God knows how long. Saints are not Catalans. Surely you can appreciate that point? But he is approaching them in the same way. Wrong, wrong, wrong.


I have no idea who is available but he would probably have to be cheap since our chairman has made it abundantly clear that at present the wallet has a padlock on it.

No, we are boring! Catalans were a big pack, and still are a big pack, and are known for going up the middle. We are not a big pack and we are not as effective going up the middle.

And Catalans sometimes could be very boring. Sometimes, if Bosc was on form, they could be very spontaneous. But also they could just play relatively boring up the middle rugby.

Translation = that is SaintsFan's opinion.

it shows how little you know. while potter was there everything revolved around Mogg, McGuire and Greenshields. Once catalans reverted back to this game plan in the latter half of the season then they were much more effective.

Well, since we were discussing Catalans off the cuff play then I think my comment about Bosc was spot on since he can be an off the cuff player. Loved his try against whoever when he kicked once from each foot and scored. That should have had a trophy all to itself. I'd love to see that kind of skill and spontenaity more often in the Superleague.

Shame our first choice 7 wasn't up to producing that kind of quality at all this season though. A situation that had nothing to do with Potter...

I'm not saying that it was anything to do with Potter but I'd like to know how you can assert that it wasn't. Unless you join the lads in their training sessions and such like?

Only away from home, when playing in france they are consistently more creative and play with considerably more flare.

Their hand is forced somewhat away from home. Teams traditionally are required to play much more defensive, not just in RL.



At the start of the year our forward line would have consisted of Graham, Cayless, Fas'avalu, Hargreaves/Puletua and Cunningham, thats a pretty big pack if you ask me.

[uOur[/u hand was forced when by losing Cayless and Fas'avalu early in the year for a large part of the comp, and though Puletua is big enough for the front line and has chipped in, for me, he has more impact in the 2nd row. Add to this the fact that Hargreaves has about as much impact at prop as a bug on a car windshield and you begin to understand why we have struggled playing it up the middle this season.

What I feel has hurt us this year is that when we have taken the ball up the middle or ability to offload has completely disappeared, this was something that set the two teams apart in the final and to a degree in the semi too. Unfortunately Cayless was perhaps our best exponent of this art in our pack.

Well, I've only seen them playing away as I've yet to afford a visit to their place (unfortunately, as I'd love to go).


I think this was more what I was thinking of, rather than simply size. They are generally a bigger group of players physically than Saints but also they seem to make real progress when they go forward because their pack appears to do stuff with the ball. So perhaps I should have added more effective along with bigger.
