Maybe until the end of the season, but I don't think Russell will be leaving Wigan. As I said I would expect Mellor to be a Widnes player permanently next season.

I was wondering about it when walking down to the bosses (my mam) to watch tonights game.
Maybe Russell to Salford on loan next season as well would be a good deal for both clubs.

Actually I think it's a very discouraging sign for other clubs that Matty Smith is now the pinnacle of talent that's out there... We've had to go from Long/Eastmond/Pryce to Lomax/Hohaia/Gaskell in just a few seasons after all....

As for Wigan signing Smith, I would imagine the exchange suited both clubs for different reasons. Salford seem to be struggling financially and so the money will have helped them. Wigan have the chance of reigniting their reputation for buying the best players from other teams. I guess they don't produce young halfback talent of their own. Unlike Saints.

When did Saints last win anything with a Saints academy produced half back (at any level)?

i know your a woman but, sean long, paul deacon, luke robinson, Kevin brown and sam tomkins originally never mind the three England academy half's are all from wigans academy.

But 2 of those are retired, one's a hooker, the other a fullback and the other works for toys r us
