Memery serves that he hit a bit of form around the time Millward was our coach and we had a run of losses against them.

| We've had some pretty good kickers during my time of watching saints. Loughlin, Dave Lyon, Jamie Lyon, bobbie goulding, Sean long, scully and foster was all good goal kickers.
Sean long was great under pressure but for the best I'd go with Jamie foster.

I'm not sure those stats are that great though, they don't take into account where the kicks are taken from. You often find RU players hardly ever seem to miss but most of the kicks are from infront of the posts for pens. RL sees many kicks taken from the touchline for many of the tries. Not just saying it because he is a Wigan player but Richards is one of the best kickers around, the distance he can get helps him knock them over from anywhere..... but most of his kicks last year were from the touchline because of the rugby we played, Goulding and Richards scored 54 tries between them meaning that a lot of his kicks were right from the sideline which means the percentage is going to be lower than if he took them all from further inside. I'm sure there are teams which score tries closer to the posts.

The entertaining sides will score tries closer to the posts, those that score from further out and rely on the skills and speed of their players rather than the long cut out forward pass to a winger who flops over the line, or the kick to the corner for an otherwise anonymous player to score from.

You missed the off your post.
The anonymous Tommy Voll, Bill Boston, Brian Bevan, Martin Offiah, Anthony Sullivan etc must have played in some boring sides then.

| Some stats dont tell the full story imo,and goal kickings one of them.the big game pressure kicks are the ones i look out for.Goulding's for GB v Aus at Wembley in 94,Long v Bulls in the grand final 99,me v St.Marys O.B. in 98.Foster,so far,has got the temprement to handle almost any pressure kick, and hopefully will be up with the greats in the future. The pleasing thing for me is that the rest of his game is improving too.

| Brett Hodgson is kicking at 81% so far this season.... to be fair though it would be higher... but we're scoring so many tries his old legs gets tired from all the kicking and he starts missing a few.

If I remember rightly Barry Eaton broke that record not long after that whilst playing for Dewsbury.

| Again last night Foster had a top game. Not only his goal kicking, which was spot on again, but his kick offs put Leeds under pressure every time, and led to a couple of mistakes. His drop outs too are as long as I've seen from a Saints player in a long time. He was solid in defence and always seems safe under high kicks. He may not be the flying winger that some people want, but he adds a huge amount to Saints overall game.

He also did a nice kick through which almost gave us a try. I'm glad he is developing that side of his game. Also, I liked the way he ignored Roby for the tap kick on one occasion. That left Leeds a bit non-plussed and showed some initiative. I think Foster is developing into a player who can think on his feet, which is encouraging.
Also, I disagree that he isn't a 'flying winger'. After his chase against the Crusaders I think he has enough pace for a winger. The only downside at present is that he doesn't make many yards when taking up the ball, but that I think is down to his relative size.

He's fast enough, I think we all look back with rose tinted specs, If you make a list of wingers that Saints have had in SL and take away Fosters kicking, he still comes fairly high in the ranking of how effective he is as a winger. Not going to bother right now, but I can name 3 former wingers off the top of myhead that he beats without thinking.
Sean Hoppie, Danny Arnold, Chris smith, Ian hardman ........

Potter said last year that foster has prob come in a year early. On that basis they only expected jamie to be knocking on the door this year as maybe a bit part player. He's now established himself as first choice winger which he's done a great job. I think next year we will see Jamie fill out a little more and put more muscle on, then I think he might start breaking tackles.
He's done really well from the last 6 games last year up to present day and if he sticks at saints for his entire career he'll smash every points record going!

And wasn't that the day after Hazeem el-Masri did one less for Canterbury Bulldogs. The Aussies tried to claim it didn't count because it wasn't in the main league (quelle surprise)
