I don't think he will have to do stuff like that at saints as we've got better depth and better quality of players.
I'll be interested to see how he sees TP, will he be prop or backrow?
If he sees him as a second row, that will see sia, Manu and TP fighting for the secondrow spots.
Could Sia play 13 or will have wilkin as a extra ball player?

| Lance was very much improved. It was good to see him playing with a bit of aggression and taking the line on. We still desperately lack a kicking game when him and Lomax play together, though.

Agree, best game easily from Lance last night, but as you say we are desperate for a decent kicking game.

| We have lance for three more years on what must be a fairly substantial wodger of salary cap, so like him or not we have to get the best out of him. He has shown on a couple of occasions this year that he is a very good player, and never gives less than 100% commitment. We need to play to his strengths, which don't include a kicking game or half backs vision but do have speed and evasiveness. Saints game evolved when long took over from goulding, they were both very different players. Brown wants a half back as a priority, if the best we could hope for was smith then we are better sticking with what we have got.

The difference is that before Long developed into a good ball player he had Martyn to lead the team around the park and do the lion's share of the kicking. Hohaia doesn't have that luxury.

| People need to realise that every player from down under does not come into Super League and play well immediately. We have had players in the past who have taken a season to settle in and then become a valuable member of the team. Hohaia has took a while to settle, but with him at stand off and J-Lo at scrum half we have lost only 3 games ( we all know which ones ). He brings something to the team and Lomax plays better with him along side him. It's quite simple to me that he should be our 1st choice stand off unless injured.

Agree completely. Gaskell provides good back up for injurys or as a different option from the bench. But hohaia and lomax should be our half back combination.

I've been told Wello has been offered 2 years by Salford with Longy pushing for the deal. Obviously I guess that would depend on how their finances go. That would pave the way for Hohaia to move back to 1

He's agreed a 1 year deal at saints.
Maybe he'll take the extra year at Salford if it's true.

| I would have thought Makinson will be fullback if Wello leaves. Moving hohaia there leaves us lacking experience at half back.

Leaving him there leaves us lacking experience at halfback . Gaskell's probably had more first teams games in the halves than he has now. Moving him to 1 retains his experience as a whole in his best position and allows us to play a proper 6 , maybe even one with a kicking game . I do rate Hohaia but not as a halfback I think he would be a great asset with a bit more freedom

Like we said yesterday, lance is used to having space from playing fullback most of his life.
Playing him fullback would give him that space he needs to make breaks but I do worry about him under the high ball.

What do you people not understand? Wellens is going NOWHERE. The forum at LP and MrMac says he is being offered a contact for as long as he wants, Wellens says the same in an interview a couple of weeks back. Then all the Season ticket brochures talk about Wellens leading the team in 2013!
And on the O/T Lance has been getting better and betteras posters have said it takes time for an overseas player to get their mojo back. Give the lad a break he WILL be great for us.

| I think it’s a tough one in the case of Wellens but is if the club has not made its mind up. It must be coming when it’s time to let him go, the guy is a rock as far as his inspiration and guidance on the field, but if his physical performance holds the side back? I thought Hohaia’s game against the Cats was the best I’ve seen him have, and I feel fullback would give him the space he needs to pull the strings in attack. Sad, but everything put together sooner or later fall apart, and in my opinion maybe it’s time for Wellens to go, but like I said it a tough one. It’s a question of balance..

| Well Saints may have offered a one year deal, but at this end of his career you can see how a 2 year deal would be tempting. The only problem is that it's Salford offering the deal. Is a two year deal at Salford any more secure than a 1 year deal at Saints?
Financially speaking would Salford make it through 2 years, or would he be looking at a Bradford senario and contract cancelled???
I can see both arguements in terms of holding him and letting him go. If we hold him, then Makinson will be able to bide his time on the wing, there is no real rush getting him to FB, it's all good experience. The question would be about our four halfbacks, all on long term deals.
Lance 2015
Lomax 2015
Gaskell 2014
Wheeler 2014
Is there any point keeping 4 halves, if they are not going to play regularly. Surely by the time it gets to 2016 Lomax will have renewed, and Lance will have retired, Gaskell and Wheeler will be 25ish and if they have not been poached by another SL team, I can't see us keeping them either????
If one of them could bulk up to Loose Forward then you can see the sense in holding all four, but if it's halfback or nothing, then by 2016 the next set of bright young things will be coming through and we may even buy in.

The deal wello has agreed with saints, is a 1yr rolling contract and he will be at saints when he's finished playing, I can't see him turning that down.

As far as Wellens signing for Saints is concerned it is very black and white. Just because for some reason you dont want it, doesnt make it so.
