| I'd be tempted to cash in and look for a replacement. Someone made of crusty bread rather than biscuit, for a start.

| He's good, but not as crucial to our future as Jammer and Robes IMO, getting Jammer signed up for 4/5 years is much more important than keeping biscuit boy!

| Kyle`s just trying to get the best deal he can for himself, you can`t blame him for examining every option. I hope he stays with Saints but i will wish him the best of luck if he goes to union.

| Don't despair just yet folks I'm sure Warrington's accountants will be looking at ways of getting him under the salary cap. Where theres a will there's a way especially when the RFL are willing to turn blind eyes to certain clubs practices.

| I think we were naive and slightly short-sighted to offer him a 2year dear which in effect was alway's only going to secure his services for another year. Sometimes you have to take a gamble and our board (probably correctly) wasn't ready to make the gamble.
We cannot have our cake and eat it - the modern player is more switched on and has to treat the whole thing like a business deal and that's the way it's going to go.
Bye Bye Eastmond

| Yawnion is also subject to a salary cap which makes average earnings very similar to SL>
I'm not sure whether signing on fees are subject to the same cap limits but don't think they are.
Obviously Bath are using their sponsorship by McVities to fund this.

| I wouldn't panic just yet. If Kyle's agent is hawking his name around then fair play. He's still a saints player and has a decent amount of time to prove his worth to us on the pitch . If we can't afford to keep him then we'll get someone else in, but the days of union throwing silly money at leaguies is long gone IMO.

Has he not been doing that for the majority of the last 2 years?

| If he is seriously thinking about it then get shut of him now. I can only use Leeds as an example as I follow them but we have gotten rid of anyone who is not 100% committed hence why McGuire, Burrow and Sinfield are all happy at Leeds. The likes of Chev, Calderwood, and Harris were allowed to leave once they showed their true colours chasing the pound

It says that bath are willing to pay him Ā£200,000 a year, now I'd call that silly money.
I'm not to fussed if he stays or if he goes to be honest, its not as bad as when players like longy was linked to wigan, KC being linked to union or scully being lined up by Aussie sides as he's not in the same league as any of them.
I think hes a good player with potential to be a great player but I'd fully back the saints board by not breaking the bank for a injury prone player.
IMO offer him what we think he's worth now, if he don't accept we should transfer list him and look to bring a good ball playing scrumhalf.
In the rugby leaguer it says Leon will 100% be fit for Wigan in Cardiff and Kyle also looks set to play.

Ā£200k is worth it for a world class half back, if he can prove he can stay fit. I'm having doubts if he's physically up to Rugby League

IMO I wouldn't pay Kyle Ā£200,000 a year as I don't think he's anywhere near that level at this moment in time.
The problem saints have, we will need to offer him the contract before midseason and I doubt we will know how good he will be in half a season.
I'd offer him a contract of what any good 21yr old would get.

| Admittedly coming from an outside POV, but to me it does seem that Eastmond (or at least his agent) has been messing Saints around for the last year or so. As has been said by others I think McManus needs to get Eastmond in to his office and either tell him to shut up and be happy with his deal, or sell him and get as much as possible for him. Then buy someone like Sammut as a replacement.
Eastmond is an incredibly dangerous player, but is he worth breaking the bank over? Is he as vital to Saints as someone like Long or Cunningham was?

| Unfortunately I think Eastmond will pack up and f*ck off asap. I don't think he'll ever be what Sean Long was to Saints in the halves.
He's certainly a talented individual - no doubting that, and it would be a loss to RL and a kick in the teeth when he inevitably plays for England RU at Twickenham and his RL playing history erased with RU claiming to have brought him through.
I'd rather he stay in RL (even if it is for you lot) but regrettably it seems he's content on a move to RU.

I think there's more people staying despite massive offers than going.
Sculthorpe, Long and Cunningham all stayed during there best years despite people sniffing around. Then there's wellens, im sure he has had interest in the past. Roby has just signed on for us again despite apparent offers.
At Leeds you have McGuire and Sinfield still with you. Others im sure.
I think it is more high profile when people move and so it is put in the limelight. If people want to chase money than i say good riddance to them when they leave, that's not the attitude we need. There is always another player chomping at the bit to get their chance and remain loyal to RL.

I've been posting the same things on here and other forums on this subject. I agree totally ( apart from sammut as replacement).
As I've said on the other posts, get eastmond in the office now and tell him the deal we've put on the table. If he's unhappy sell him asap

| He's clearly been tapped up. Given the amount of money Saints have invested in the player's development I would suggest we should be entitled to compensation given the circumstances.

| Trying times for SL in general, As fast as the clubs produce quality players, storys emerge of them furthering their career elsewhere, sign of the times I'm afraid, there is a lot of money to be earned by superstars, good luck to them, Clubs must hold their nerve and not get involved breaking the bank to keep them. Not like the RL who put the likes of Cunningham and Radlinski on enhanced contracts to keep them in SL, both have now gone and the game survived and moves on.

| There is only one answer to this and that's to improve player development. The reason these stories always send a shiver down the spine, and the reason players can bid up their wages in this way, is because there's only a small number of truly talented players like Eastmond available. If there was a similarly talented individual in every academy, waiting for his opportunity, then we'd be rather less bothered.
Eastmond is a good player, but with the best will in the world, his most consistent characteristic so far is being injury-prone. Don't spend extra money on him through this obvious bidding tactic, spend it on finding the next five Eastmonds and let them fight it out for their big chance.
