As for the game Leeds just edged it and Saints will rue individual errors that cost them.

At first I thought it was a dodgy call but the rule is where the ball is and where the try scorers back leg is, in this case if you pause it, its clearly a try IMO.

Also had saints scored and lost by one point or something you would have more right to be annoyed but even without the try Leeds still win 11-10.

I've watched it frame by frame and Smith was at least 12" in front when the ball was kicked through. It was an absolute shocker of a decision and thats from a Hull FC fan!!!

Every neutral fan i've talked to or has shared an opinion on this forum has called it offside. In real time it looked offside and then when at the game watching the video replay it quite clearly was marginally offside. I could see it was offside in the ground and was relieved at the time. No one supporting Leeds cheered when they first showed it on the screen. All the neutrals around us were upset because they knew it was going to be disallowed. And it should have been.

You will see the same thing many times next season and they will always be correctly ruled out.

I think you will find I stated that Leeds were very worthy winners on another thread. You guys thoroughly deserved it.

I think it is very telling that Cummings had to write a piece for the rugby league press attempting to convince everyone Bentham was right. Cummings also said he could have understood a penalty try being awarded to Gardner for Webb's illegal tackle, but that wasn't given. I think his need to explain and defend his refs' decisions says more about those decisions than anything else. He clearly knows his refs were on thin ice.

Had it not been for Meli's two brainfarts I would say Leeds were extremely lucky to win on Saturday night. However, as I have acknowledged elsewhere, those two dodgy decisions (against Gardner and for you) were not the reason we lost. Meli was.

But the explanation they gave isn't in the rule book, it doesn't say anything about planted feet and ball position.

What it actually says is that if you're in front of a team mate and he has the ball in his hands then you are offside. You can get put back onside if he gets in front of you or you give the opposing side 10 metres.

Cummins has come out with a load of waffle to cover Bentham's shocking error of judgement. Most folk will take that waffle as gospel.
