| Quote ="Kebab From Genos"As stated previously in this thread, as a club St.Helens depise Wigan, Wigan despise St.Helens. This is not about arrogance, its about history and tradition.
As a set of supporters, both St.Helens and Wigan depise Warrington. This is down to the fact they have always had a problem with attracting d**khead supporters and now two CC wins later, more and more appear to be jumping on this bandwagon.
I agree with the 'mutual respect' between Wigan and St.Helens (barring derby day of course
)
On derby day, I get up feeling butterflies, go and watch a fantasticly fought nerve racking game with a brilliant atmosphere. This is exactly the same as any Warrington game.
The difference comes when en route home. After Wigan away, every year we walk back to the train discussing the game with Wigan fans, whoever loses is gracious in defeat. Home safely, no problems.
At Warrington away, its a task getting back to the station without being confronted. Theres always that feeling of nastiness in the air. If saints have won (which happened a fair bit
) you receive constant abuse. Even after the game last month, they were trying to bait all the saints fans to cause a reaction. total pr**ks.
Tbh, I'm surprised the police haven't requested a midday KO for tomorrows cup game because if Wigan win and end Warrington's 'Cup Dominance', I expect a fair bit of trouble.. hopefully all are well behaved, but I'm not holding my breath.'"

The unfortunate part of this for us that with that younger element comes with younger drinkers which wasn't as prevenlent when saints and more so wigan started dominating, this is my theory anyway. We do have a lot of decent fans aswell as idiots as all clubs do but it is unjust to tar all with the same brush that a lot of posters on this thread have done

I live in warrington and have never had any problem beyond being given a load of stick - I even go in my local warrington mad boozer with my saints shirt on without a load of abuse.
I'm afraid I can't ever support wigoon winning against [u any[/u SL team in any competition although I do support them against the convicts.
So its wire for me and hopefully by a huge margin.
(also assuming we beat the dobbins; I'd fancy our chances in the semi's or final against dire rather than the goons having watched us against both of them recently - we were stuffed by wigoon and a tad unfortunate and dire).

| Quote ="Horatio Yed"I love the 'trouble with the Wire fans is they're all arrogant' speech.
Wigan fans practically invented the word and us Wire fans have had their arrogance rammed down our throats for years, the 2nd we even remotely mention anything positive we're arrogant?
What's wrong with us saying we have a great team when we so evidently do right now?
What's wrong with saying we think we'll win games when we are 2nd and have the shield in our own destiny?
The trouble with all these successful teams is they can't take another mouth at the table of meagre offerings.
Arrogant maybe, but Wigan and to a slightly lesser extent Saints have been guilty of it in bundles.'"
There is a difference. People find the supporters of successful teams annoying as they constantly go on (quite rightly)about their success. In football Man Utd fans are unpopular for this reason. Wire fans perceived arrogance comes from the fact that they way the crow far outweighs what they have actually achieved!

Saints over Wire any day for me.

| Can't wait for this match this afternoon. I hope they knock seven bells out of each other. As regards who I want to win I have said earlier Wire for me. I can't shout for or support Wigan ever. Arrogance doesn't come into it for me.
Just read on the Wire forum that Briers is out and Harrison. (don't know if it is true or not) if it is then i would expect Wigan to win.

I am never happy when Wigan win anything!
However, Wire were very poor in defence and they clearly missed Briers and Morley. God knows how they would have coped if they'd had our injury crisis!
We need to ensure that our defence is Danielandersonesque from now on in because if we can absorb what Wigan throw in the first 20 minutes or so then we have as good a chance of beating Wigan as we have of anything else.

They do. They play the same plays over and over again. Then Sam Tomkins runs. And of course there is the three man piley, which always dulls down a game of rugby.

| This is a year where we may take down Wigan at Wembley. Finally after so long the chance for Saints to give some payback for those chances spurned pre SL.
Sadly I think if we get by Hull KR. It will be Wigan Saints Semi With an all yorkshire semi to make sure the semi's are sellouts. The final always sells well no matter who plays.
I've heard they started warming the yorkshire balls last week.

They play great well rehed rugby which is drilled in to them by a very very good coach.
The way they move it wide with all the runners as options causes the defence all sort of problems.

| Both sides showed that they are vulnerable today. Wire are starting to pick up a run of injuries, so missing the semi and the final, will help them there getting players back.
I still say 2nd is not out of the question if we win all our games.
Wire's last 3 Catalan away, then Wigan, then Hull
Cat's away is tricky at the best of times, with them aiming for 4th spot all the more tricky.
Wigan have shown today they can beat Wire when it counts.
If they lose those 2 games, we will be 1 point off the Wire and well it's squeaky bum time and we all know what happened last year.
It's not probable. But it is possible. We need to be consistent and then wait and see if the Wheels fall off the Wire. It's a bit much to ask but far from impossible to imagine.

| I think we saw today a Wigan side that will comfortably do the double.
Wire are an excellent side, but struggled to live with Wigan.
In the big games this year that have mattered, Wigan have had the ability to turn the notch upto 11 in both defence and offence. The main challengers to Wigan be it Warrington or Saints just havent been able to live with them.
I know my fellow Saints fans will make the excuse about losing to Wigan because we have had injuries, however in all those matches and throughout the season our defence has been awful. Unless we can somehow work out how to defend in the manner of Wigan, then i fear an absolute thrashing by the pies, if we meet in the cup or playoffs.
An interesting point to note is that with Briers and Morley missing Wire looked directionless for much of the match.
They are both veteran players and this does not bode well for Wires long term future as a top team. Especially when you consider Hodgson is also abut 34 years old.
I have a sneaky feeling this match will be seen as a watershed moment for the Wire. It would not surprise me if their moment in the spotlight is now over, and they will go back to being a decent but ultimately unsuccessful club.
How wire react to this will also be interesting. They have a few tough fixtures coming up, and if Saints can get on a run, then who knows we could end up finishing second. That would be an amazing achievement if it happened, and would be very unexpected.

| I agree CM, Wigan have gone up a gear in the big games and their attack and defence is head and shoulders above the rest of us.
They do look like a team capable of doing the treble.
I'd love a day out at Wembley watching saints in a challenge cup final but I hope to god it's not against the pies!

Agree with you that wire were leaderless. Mon did his best but the rest didn't look convinced.
Where I really disagree is the goons being on for the double. This is the wigoon team that really struggled in the last round against bratfud?
They looked very vunerable at times today around the middle and around the edges. The solomona injury was a defining moment when the momentum of the game went back to wigoon.
I think a better analysis is that neither team were much good in defence - some of the tries were absolutely awful from a defensive point of view.
I've no problem meeting the goons in the semi (providing we bear the dobbids) as they don't look unbeatable.
How richards got MOM is beyond belief - it was surely bambi's by a mile!!
I also can't agree that dire are a spent force - the league decider is against the goons the week after wembley so if the goons get there they will get the traditional thrshing that finalists get especially if the goons win the cup; by that stage the two leaders / old timers will prob be back to put some steel into their side.

Agreed.
And Warrington blew lots of chances not to mention forgot how to tackle. Hodgson had a mare as well and couldn't remember how to convert tries at the time doing so would have made a real difference.
