| Quote ="Saddened!"Foster is too small to play anywhere bar the wing. Lomax hasn't a chance in hell of making it in SL, he has the worst hands I've ever seen in a player, he's a one man knockonathon. You wince everytime the ball goes near him and cover your eyes completely whenever he gets tackled. He also can't tackle, his attempt on Henry for the second try was Radlinski-esque.
But it's Wello that needs to go more urgently for me. He has been a truly great player for us, but is letting himself down massively. He is too slow to play fullback in SL and is always arriving when it's just too late. His ability to be in the right place almost magically has left him and he looks completely out of place.'"
I see every town has a village idiot and you are it. The e you spout week in week out makes me ashamed that I support saints.
You believe wello has to cover every blade of grass on the pitch, wrong he has to be helped out by his back line of centres and wingers.
Grow up and be gratefull for the players we have and what we have acheived in superleague muppet.

Oh yeah, I forgot how great a coach Cullen was. Remind me how he went last time he coached in Super League? Any coach can shout at his players and "show some emotion", I doubt most of them could get to 3rd in the table with an injury-hit squad.

| Im not saying we want or should have cullen, but at least he shows passion or something but potter at best is a cardboard cut out, and where was he when the cameras went to the dressing room at half time it was not he that was talking.
Maybe Ive got it all wrong its just for me a personal thing I never wanted him here in the first place so maybe Ive got a downer on him.

The cameras weren't trained on the changing rooms for the whole of half time - we have no idea what was and wasn't said and by whom.

I am grateful for the success we've had and for Wello's contribution throughout his career. However his contract is up I believe (Correct me if I'm wrong) and I can't honestly see any reason to keep him other than sentimentality. He is too slow and his ability to 'be there' has deserted him. Look at Broughton's try, would any other fullback in SL have looked so foolish? They would have been there quicker and made a proper attempt to tackle him. I seem to be the only person who sees any wrong in him. He let the ball go out on the full from the kick off, missed a few key tackles, knocked on about 2 or 3 times for tries from kicks and just had an absolute mare throughout.
Gardner, rightly, has been panned on here for his errors, but all of those were situations where the fullback should be taking charge of things and dealing with them. I would have Leon at fullback next week, Wello at centre if Flannery isn't back.

Sigh.
I know people have enjoyed quoting Sculthorpe allegedly having a go at Potter as some sort of justification that he's a clueless coach. The thing is, people tend not to quote a couple of Scully's more pertinent comments:
Quote ="Paul Sculthorpe"I've talked to players who have played under him and they speak very highly of his coaching. I spoke to Stacey Jones when Potter joined Saints as Stacey had worked with him at Catalans and he told me he was one of the best coaches he'd ever played under. Stacey has played with some of the very best so Potter obviously knows his stuff.'"
Quote ="Paul Sculthorpe"He has had to bring in young kids who, when they started, were not up to it. At the time, they were not Super League standard and were too inexperienced to be playing for Saints. If Potter is improving these current players, then he has to take credit for that even if we don't win anything this year. I think the fans understand that but they don't like saying it.'"
Potter should not be judged on one game at home to Hull, nor one game away at Salford missing 7 or so players where he was let down badly by some of his internationals. He should be judged at the end of this contract (when he could theoretically have won the double) and even in the seasons to come if the young players he has spent two years coaching through a period of transition for the side develop into the players we all hope they will.
I still firmly believe he is doing well in some very testing circumstances this season and that we are well placed to challenge on all fronts.

Sorry. Didn't realise irony was now banned.
The alternative view is that the players have done very well this year in spite of Potter. Hmmm?

You wonder why anybody bothers having a coach at all, since the players can sort themselves out so easily.

PS Your 3rd in the league, I would lay off Potter a wee bit.

And almost certainly CC semi-finalists.
Most of us are laying off him, but some people have made their minds up and will use any tenuous reason to support their opinions.

| I've said it once before that under Anderson Saints looked invincible, now under Potter you are beatable.
That's no disrespect to Potter or the team now it's just Anderson was a good coach and was fortunate to have a good core of players as was Millward but with Sculthorpe and Long gone, Cunningham going and Wellens not as good as he once was it is inevitable you might struggle despite who the coach is, even if you get Wayne Bennet in you would be in the same situation with players injured and senior players leaving.
It happened to us when Farrell, Rads, Newton, Lam, O'Connor, Cassidy, Smith etc left, the only way to get over it is to build from the ground up, it will take time as well as a few pastings from over the lump just as we had to take.
In my eyes he isn't that bad, it could be worse, you could be bottom of the league and out of the cup with Eastmond going to RU and Graham off to the NRL. Look on the brightside eh?

We were beatable under Anderson, check out our GF record . Harry still has a great chance to win us the big one - would that make him the better coach? Who knows. If we did win the title, we'd still have fans claiming it was despite Potter.
The game has changed - SL is as tight as ever at the top. Realistically, given a bit of luck and a bounce of the ball you could see Wigan, Warrington, Saints, Bradford, Huddersfield or Leeds becoming champions in October. That's never been known and, while it might knock us all-conquering Saints down a peg or two, it's great for the game.
I don't see us as being in the same boat as the Wigan scenario you refer to. Scully we had to replace years ago, even though he was officially on the books for some time after that. Long has been replaced by Eastmond, who is a more than adequate replacement for the Long we saw during his last 2 seasons with us.
I don't think we'll see the kind of pastings we dished out to Wigan during our dominance, simply because the two teams are much closer together now - as it should be. Some Wigan fans are getting a bit giddy with their top of the league position - we should know, that counts for nowt in May.
You're right though, things could be much, much worse. We're all but in a CC semi, very well placed for a shot at the GF and this is despite having some major injuries to key personnel throughout the season so far.
Good times, IMO.

We've already replaced players from successful sides like Prescott/Newlove/Sullivan/Lyon/Albert/Martyn/Long/Goulding/Perelini/Joynt/Sculthorpe/Gilmour/Cayless/Anderson etc etc.
We started building from the ground up a long time ago, our best players this season are predominately players through the academy (Eastmond/Roby/Graham/Clough).
It's nothing like what happened at Wigan and there will be no Millward-esque pastings coming our way - you won the last game against our easy beats because you kicked more penalties than we did.
We're 4 points off top and almost certainly in the CC Semis, not bottom of the league like Wigan were when they lost some big players and had a few injuries.

Saints have half a dozen lads that could play 13 better than Wellens.
If he wants to play 13, I don't reckon it will be at Saints.
